on a separate note, yes, the contrast in responses to both threads, is pretty vivid. :>

Dushwari
no i meant such an interesting topic .. why did u open it in cafe? ho gaya na uss ka wahan hashar nashar? :) I am kidding,k just interesting to see the difference in approach in the 2 threads of the posting public
Re: Books an endangered commodity
diabolical? I am that scary?
being the proverbial gadfly and a contrarian keeps discussion alive :)
yes I was the among the 4 guys rooting for france in worldcup 98 even whe the entire sportsbar was full of brazil fans, kept things interesting.
Re: Books an endangered commodity
who said that they are becoming obsolete. mujhay to her saal dharoon books perwai jati hain. ![]()
you think turnitin.com have all the books in there data base, or readable softcopy of scholarly journalz?
ps. or app nay kabhi bhi mujhay nahi kaha k plagraise mut kero ![]()
i havent even submitted the paper. or app phele say he accused ker wa raha hain ![]()
Re: Books an endangered commodity
what kind of gadfly? & who is it? :>
han, Fradia bhai?
no you are not that scary. please.
yes, though, the contrarian part is iffy and flaky.
you side with the sides.
you know, you never stand up for the voice of reason :>
best,
Dushwari
Re: Books an endangered commodity
hey u called me diabolical, so I was just trying to get to the reason.
I do side with the sides which are usually sides that I start or support to challenge assumptions,
as they say, I'm the fire starter...
anyhow, returning to books, how do u think publishers feel about some of those book trading sites
Re: Books an endangered commodity
oh my God, Fraudia bhai, i like lit lanterns or fireplace, too, but not gaping flames :>
challenging assumption, i dont trade books. and so i dont know the publishers who have books trade websites.
i get books new. :>
perhneye likhneye seye taluk heye, kitaabein naee achee legteen hein mujheye.
best,
Dushwari
Re: Books an endangered commodity
lanterns and fireplaces, hmm so no bonfires or campfires.
ahh just call me the intellectual inferno..
I am ghareeb aadmi, looking to get books w/o buying them or having to try and locate them in libraries
Re: Books an endangered commodity
used books at barnesnnoble.com
amazon.com
payhalf.com
efollet.com
:>
best,
Dushwari
Re: Books an endangered commodity
but see that would mean I would pay 50% and I am still stuck with my books I no longer want..unless I donate them, versus a book swap place where I get rid of my books and get new books and then swap em again :)
Re: Books an endangered commodity
hmm, did you try local libraries?
or a college campus?
my rule for my students, they cant use a book older than 2 editions for college education purposes.
but, some books, for instance manuals or technical self help IT books or books you bought to read on a safar, you can swap them with friends or their cousins and see what they have for you to pick out from.
maybe, share your offer to sharing your books far and wide in your circle of influence. they can come and see your books and pick what they want and in return you take a look at their collection of books.
or at least, you will get rid of your own ones, to make room for new that you will purchase or swap.
best,
Dushwari
Re: Books an endangered commodity
its not for education, some of them are just fiction books, some are business books like good to great or blink etc
and I want it hassle free, having ppl come look at books. too involved :)
I will check the sites out and give em a try.
Re: Books an endangered commodity
year 2060.......thoughts
"Grandpa where do you put the batteries in"
in fifty + years u may not have batteries either.
Re: Books an endangered commodity
networking with friends mixed in with books, novel concept for book lovers. but it would kinda suck to invite your pals to one site for books, one for networking one for laming online, .. dont u think, good idea though but for ppl who are more of a book fan then me. thanks i know some ppl in my family who would love this site
Re: Books an endangered commodity
See that's another great reason for ebooks. Storage!!
I have 3+ bookshelves full of all kinds of books, from fiction to text books to technical reference. But I have 10 times as many books on a 60 gb hard drive which continues to grow.

get em executive book summaries, they take the key points out of a book and give it to you in a short simple format.
