Has anyone read any books by Bapsi Sidhwa - like Cracking India, Pakistani bride, or Candy man?

Shinoo suggested God of small things. That is a true classic in this genre. Deviliciousss, you stated that you have read it already - but you wouldn’t mind reading it again? i have read it about halfway, but i would love to start from the beginning as i am certain i must have missed a lot of interesting details.

mm  Anyone else have any other suggestions?

Deviliciousss, Great intro. Thanks. i actually thought you were a guy when you replied to my other thread (that’s why i was a bit hesitant to send a copy of that book because i felt uncomfortable writing out my return address on the parcel :o ). i am truly so sorry about that :flower1: :flower1: A brief intro - i’m 22, studying international development studies (poli sci and anthropology predominantly). i got my love for south asian literature, i think, from one of my sisters; compared to her, i probably have read almost nothing :frowning: Masha’Allah she’s got some stuff published too. This Book Club idea is wonderful and i truly look forward to the interesting discussions to come, Insha’Allah.

oh wow.. another poli sci major.. dont see much of that.. zaida tar log r into medicine.. law or comp sci.. i got two things common wit u.. poli sci and literature.. especially south asian..
woww.. ur sis got stuff published.. thats really great.. if she wouldnt mind.. try postin it here so pthers can read it as we… (if u havent already done that)
oh dont worry most ppl do think im a guy.. i guess its the nick.. i thought it was girly.. go figure..

i took an intro anthropology an i loved it.. i dint agree with some of the stuff.. but its def interesting..
we had to read jus one book Wisdom of the bones.. and i have to admit it was very well written.. but then i decided to go for history as my minor cuz i had more credits ..
newayzzz.. so far three pplz up for god of small thingss

hey i love south asian literature.. would love to read more books about the area.. so far ive only read suitable boy and d'arranged marriage.. those were fiction..

taboo - the hidden culture of the red light area & Broken Bangles were excellent books.. but those are Non-fiction... im up for nething though..

Aparna, If you don’t mind my asking (just out of curiosity) what is ā€œFasting, feastingā€ about?

yahan per mass main na .. i live in a subarban area so the library is alright but they dont have alootta southasian literature.. so im gonna see if i can order it online... the title sounds interesting nadia...

No, I don’t mind at all Nadia…

Fasting, Feasting is a story from the heart of a close-knit Indian household to the cool centre of an American family, this novel examines a surfeit of feasting and Indian family life, and the self-denial and starving of affluent American women in the land of plenty.

I thought it would be a good read…
