^ my whole family is in Karachi. They live less than a mile from Nishtar park. Some of my family members (nephews) even attend the Nishtar park thing every year but this year they skipped cuz they were all busy in a different wedding party or something.

as i said in the thread in PA, I am very fearful of this escalating.
The city has a deserted look right now, every shop is cloed, its completely dark since about 7pm. The roads have motorcycles buzzing around like flies on a gaping wound, and ambulances screaming to and fro, probably carrying patients from the flooded civil hospital to more distant hospitals. And fights have begun in the streets. This isnt the first suicide bombing in this city, but its the first where the majority has been attacked, and I fear a reaction like the reaction in Iraq to the bombing of the shrines of the imams.
and the reason Lajawab, for assuming that group within sunnies to be responsible is that they have previously killed the leaders of the people targetted right now (Sunni Tehreek and Jammat e ehl e Sunnah) and accepted responsibility for it. I speak of hardcore deobandi/wahhabi groups such as SSP and Lashkar e Jhangvi and other various forms of the same. You realise that the typical lower middle class karachiite who is and has been a part of this violence does NOT have access to Fox News or anyhting of the like, and they are NOT being brainwashed by any media that you think the rest of the people here might be brainwashed by. The Sunni Tehreek will hold the SSP like people who regard Milad un Nabi as Kufr responsible for this, and they will have precedence as basis for it.
That said, I dont intend to bash your specific philosophy, since none of the salafies I personally know have ever expressed any desire to blow people up. And it could well be the work of other hands than those who are suspects now, Inshallah lets hope its not one of us. But to suggest that all is well with us and believing any suggestion that this could be the work of people within us to be unenlightened and the result of Fox News merely betrays the fact that you've been out of Karachi for far too long.

^ Add to it, that it is an impossible to convince a few people that #1 We have to take responsibility for our actions, and #2 Anyone who disagrees with you is not a media-brainwashed person. Somethings are just blatant facts, which you have to face at some point.
I have personally met people, who are Muslims and are convinced that it is not only perfectly ok to kill other muslims engaged in prohibited deeds (biddat etc), but is rather the only way to salvation (i.e. to kill bad muslims). I have seen Jamaati students opening fire on unarmed college students as a retaliation for voting against Islaami Jamiat Talaba. I am sure these Jamaati students were convinced in their mind that what they are doing is great, and after every namaz they must be making dua to fulfil their aims. Unlike Lajawab, who wants to see proof of everything from his naked eyes, I have no problem in believing that there are muslims amongst us who will not hesitate to kill other muslims. Yes, as a muslim, I am willing to give everyone benefit of the doubt, but to say that any suggestion that muslims are behind these killings is a nonsense propaganda perpetrated by western media is the height of naivety.

However, given how well we have been trained through media, it's not anyone's fault...A lie oft repeated is bound to be held as true by many...

nobodys jumping to conclusions lajjo, atleast not me. but im afraid those on the streets will not be as careful about the innocent until proven guilty idea. and not many people who will arrive at that conclusion here and react violently to it will have the media whether local or foreign as basis for it, most probably havent heard of Fox News.
At any rate, ajee is right, we should refrain from bickering at this point. Allah rehem karay. I personally am very sad at the death of Koukab noorani, since I saw so much of him on TV recently.

I just called a friend of mine in Karachi, and he said that things are not in control as there are riots in different parts of karachi, along with some attacks on hospitals, thats really sad , the last thing we need is a city wide violence and more innocent blood shed.

For about two three hours, passions ran high and there were riots everywhere. Two gas stations and a coach were torched. Edhi says 8 of his Ambulances carrying dead/injured to hospital were attacked. Situation is now calming down. Three days mourning has been declared and all schools in the province have been closed down for as many days. Army too has been put on alert and it is ready to move in within 15 minutes of the call.
