ISLAMABAD: A blast in a high-security military area in Tarbela Ghazi near Islamabad killed 20 people and wounded various people on Thursday, a security official said.
The bomb exploded in the mess of Karar Company of S.S.G.in the cantonment area of Tarbela Ghazi naear Islamabad.
**It may be recalled that the Karar Company had participated in the Lal Masjid operation.

According to the Geo News reporter, the officials feared that **it might be a suicide attack.

Dinner was being taken in the mess when the bomb exploded.
According to the sources, the communication and wireless system of security agencies was also affected by the explosion.
The wounded are immediately being shifted to Islamabad hospitals whereas the security forces have cordoned the affected area. Trauma centre of the CMH and MH is on high alert.
DG of ISPR, Major General Waheed Arshad confirming the blast told that it cannot be said at the moment that what was the type of the explosion.

Islamabad: A suicide bomber blew himself up in an mess in a high-security Army camp at Tarbela dam in North-Western Pakistan, 50 kms from here, tonight killing at least 20 officers of an elite force and injuring 44 others.
Reports from Tarbela said the bomber from the Taliban militia targeted the elite Special Security Group(SSG) unit which had taken part in the July 23 Lal Masjid operations in which scores of armed militants were killed.
Dawn TV quoted Faisal Zaman, a member of the Provincial Assembly to say that 20 officers were killed and 44 injured.
Pakistan Defence spokesman Maj Gen Waheed Arshad confirmed the death of 15 personnel but declined to specify whether the attack took place on the SSG unit.

There's been a spate of attacks on military facitlities and yet no visible improvement in the security situation. Just a few days ago, there was that deadly suicide attack on an un-marked ISI staff bus. Obviosuly the perpetrators were keeping track of bus movement to mark its timing & route. Same way this mess must have been on their radar for sometime to figure out a plan. If these *******s have been able to roam around so easily to map out a plan & then do whatever they wanna do, then exactly where all our security agencies are buried - which graveyard ?
A short while ago, there was a high profile meeting chaired by none other than the tough talking commando to chalk out a strategy to combat terrorism and to check this rise in anti-state violence. if SSG cant defend themselves then whole army is useless so its leader who took this path.
its time to act and wipe out such killers. i dont think deal can work with these guys now. its too late, making deals meaning giving time to re group and organise such attacks.

Shak, I agree with you and raised the same point a year ago. There is no middle ground in this battle. You cannot talk sense into people with the mentality of Shraabi etc. To them we are all kaffirs because our beards are not long enough.

If Musharraf is unwilling to use enough military force to deal with this threat to Pakistan, he should step down.
This country now needs a leader who is willing to kill enough people to bring peace. For all his faults, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto had enough guts to unleash the Army on Balochistan in the 1970s.
Pakistan now need a leader with enough guts to unleash the army on the FATA. Musharraf is too peaceful.

These are supposed to be Pakistan's elite guard...pray tell what would happen in the event of a war with other well trained soldiers? I fear Pakistan would be doomed if it ever found itself faced with a conflict from a hostile, professional army.

Yup. Musharraf needs to get his deal with BB sewn up now, and then go after these terrorists monsters in Waziristan with the same force that Bhutto used against the Baloch traitors in the 1970's. Bhutto also chased those Pashtun nationalist traitors of the NAP out of the country as well - that's exactly what Musharraf should do as well!

This has become a joke. I say that all mullah types need to be KO'd. The SSG are being killed like flies now. They were at mess, so perhaps were killed unexpectedly...as per BBC, but none the less the security forces are appearing to be good for nothings against this Islamist fascism.

I agree with this 100%. I have said before, that Pakistan will fall to the Taleban. The people (vast majority, some 90%) dont oppose it. They may not support it, but they certainly are not vocal against it. Now even the Army seems powerless against them, split loyalties or something akin to that.

You can't really protect yourself from a suicide bomb. Only way is to take offensive action and make the talib leaders feel afraid in their own homes/caves. Do not let them have a sanctuary. Intelligence operations, precision strikes, even IEDs against the turbans, anything to win back Pakistan.

Yes I agree. They are winning the battle for Pakistan, as the govt is not motivated enough to use full force against them, and the mullahs are hitting everywhere with impunity. I fear half the PA (proper, not Interior forces) has split loyalties, with there Islam falling before the state.
The religious right is emboldend. The govt forces are being struck at will. I am speechless, mostly at the inactivity of the Pakistani masses. Seems to me they support such a version of Islam, a Talebanized state.

Exactly. They do not oppose Talibanization. Perhaps not actively campaign for it, but in this ideological war, indifference is not an option. One is either against Islamist or not, and the majority certainly arent against it.
