(CNN) – A suicide car bomb exploded Friday in the middle of a group of men playing volleyball in northwest Pakistan, killing 30 and wounding 52, district police officials told CNN.
The terror attack happened in a residential neighborhood in the Lakki Marwat district of Pakistan’s North West Frontier Province, police said. Some of the casualties were residents from houses around the volleyball court, district police Chief Mohammed Ayub Khan told CNN.
Volleyball is a popular sport in the area, and more than 200 people were watching the game when the bomb went off, the police chief said.
District police officer Asmat Ullah said it exploded in the village of Shah Hassan Khel, which is about 10 miles (16 kilometers) south of the district capital, also called Lakki Marwat, he said.
The area used to be a hub for militants before the military flushed them out about two months ago, the police chief said. Since then, militants have been making threats to the community, Mushtaq Marwatt, a member of a local peace committee, said on a local TV channel.

ISLAMABAD: A suicide bomber in a vehicle blew himself up at a volleyball game in NWFP on Friday, killing at least 25 people, officials said, the latest in a long series of deadly attacks by al Qaeda-linked militants.
“We have confirmed a figure of 25 deaths. There are many more wounded who are being rushed to hospitals in private vehicles,” a local police official, Habibullah Khan, told Reuters by telephone.
The bomber struck as young men in a village near the town of Lakki Marwat were playing volleyball in front of a crowd of spectators, including elderly residents and children, officials said.
The death toll could climb sharply as many people were buried under the rubble of nearby houses, officials said.
An attack on a sporting event is highly unusual, although militants have recently started bombing crowded civilians areas like markets to inflict mass casualties, spreading fear and chaos.
Khalid Israr, a senior regional official who spoke by telephone from a hospital treating blast victims said several people recalled seeing the bomber drive a vehicle onto the playing field and blow himself up. Dozens of anguished people, he said, were gathered at the hospital.
The bombing occurred on a day of protests against violence in the country. Pakistan’s commercial capital Karachi nearly shut down on Friday as religious and political leaders called for a strike to denounce bloodshed after a suicide bomber killed 43 people at a religious procession this week.
Karachi’s streets were nearly empty on Friday. Police and paramilitary forces carried out patrols. But residents were taking no chances.

I don't care whether they're Muslim or not. they're killing Pakistanis and therefore, they need to be exterminated like the vermin that they are - Muslims or not.
but I'm curious, why does it matter if they're the Talibaan or not? and how does that change things? do ppl believe that the Taliban are somehow noble, holy fighter types? is that why they were butchering innocent people on the streets? is that why they were digging up graves and rehanging already dead bodies? is that why they were flogging people on the streets? is that why they were murdering journalists? is that why they were raping and murdering young girls? is that why they kidnap people for ransom? is this what Islam is about?

the Taliban themselves admitted that they were responsible for the Karachi terrorist attack. they said they will conduct more terrorist attacks.
so, why is there still doubt in the minds of Pakistanis? once, they admit it themselves, why should I not blame them? and once they admit that they killed Pakistanis... why should they not be killed?

that is the problem. there is no time to wait and see... no time to hope. it is time for the govt and the army to take action. actually the time to take action was years ago... but better late then never.
we have too many ppl in our midst (politicians, armywallas, journalists and even ordinary ppl) who are closet Taliban supporters/sympathizers... just because Taliban have wild, woolly beards, somehow ppl see them as bonafide momineen. if they pray 50 times a day, they also murder, butcher rape and kidnap people. I don't know why people can't see that.
there is no collective outrage even though thousands of innocent Pakistanis have died at the hands of these animals. and as long as there is no outrage, this wait and see attitude will continue, the govt will waste time, the army will double cross everyone they can. and more innocent Pakistanis will die. and the danger to our country will increase.
