Bobby Jindal, the Louisiana governor of Indian descent, is getting increasing profile as a possible VP. Is this is a significant reason for Muslims to vote for Obama this election, just as Lieberman was a rallying cry for a lot of Muslims to vote for Bush in 2000? not that that turned out great, but IMO Jindal is much worse than Lieberman.

Yup - I heard it from a somebody who lives in a town called Laplace (not sure of spelling) and who worked in his past campaign. Not hate so much, very indifferent and very careful that desis don't think to make him their voice, probably because that will alienate the average voter.

yes, but thats kindof his only strategy if he wants to make it bigtime. but that doesnt necessarily mean he despises his background, just tries to downplay it.

I heard from a guy who came from LaPlace that Jindal doesn't really want to be identified with the Indians. But since you know him from childhood I defer to you on that.

It was all over the news in India that Jindal does resents his Indian origins.
the only reason that he converted was because he wanted to be 'more American'.

I wouldn't vote for him because he's from GOP and their reputation at the moment is not-so-good. They been invovled in a countless number of scandals, not to mention the mute approach they adopted while in power in Congress and Senate and gave G.W. blank checks without any hesitation, whatsoever.

I think Teggy has it right on this one - it doesn't really matter whether he resents or doesn't resent his roots, whether he is shrewd or cunning etc. I am planning to vote fo McCain but it would make think a bit more if Jindal is VP candidate.
Politicians are politicians and they are all going to a bit (or a lot) opportunist. When people tell me that they don't like Jindal because he converted to be a Christian to get votes, my reaction is, so what. Show me one politician who hasn't manipulated himself to get votes. And I think he converted a long time ago.
Finally, I like many others I am sure, just don't know how to react to such a boy genius. If he was a American blonde guy we'd all probably go he is a JFK reborn, so to that extent we may be being a bit unfair.
If he runs for VP I will probably try and learn a bit more about what exactly he did in his past as well as how he did them to achieve such great position in such a young age.
