Blue Screen of Death/Reinstall

Hi everybody,

Alright! So, i’ve been getting the dreaded blue sceen with Physical memory dumps for the last few days on my vista. It happens very randomly, and is extremely annoying.

It started to happen more recently after i tried tweaking around DEP to enable vista 32 bit to see more than 3GIG ram. Well, it didn’t see more than 3 gig and instead started to act weird. :hehe:

So the question i have now is, if I do a reinstall of OS, but instead of fresh install, choose Upgrade. Will it leave all my current settings and applications intact and perfectly useable while basically giving me a new vista which is repaired and ridden of any previous errors?

Thanks guys. Your help is much appreciated.

PS: What can i expect to have to do after reinstall of vista? drivers etc have to been reinstalled too? or does upgrade ensure all stays same, and just the OS is overwritten/repaired? I have too many programs on the vista and would not like to have to install them all over again. I’d rather they stayed functioning.

Re: Blue Screen of Death/Reinstall

whats the error code?

Re: Blue Screen of Death/Reinstall

I couldn't catch the error code. I'll try to capture it next time it happens.

Re: Blue Screen of Death/Reinstall

when it boots press F8 and then select do not restart on crash or smthng like this if it shows.. select it and it will load
when it will crash it will give your the blue screen

there you can see it rightly for as long as you need.

Re: Blue Screen of Death/Reinstall

Oh, alright. Will do that. Thank you :salute:

But what’s your suggestion on the reinstall though?

PS: For me to see that error again, i’ll have to use vista. Since it’s being goofy i’ve been using Win 7 more frequently.

Re: Blue Screen of Death/Reinstall

Upgrade

I switched to Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit and love it.

Re: Blue Screen of Death/Reinstall

Yeah Win 7 64-bit rocks. I’m using it right now (RTM :halo:) and i love it too.

Thanks dude. Will just upgrade for the vista issue, i hope it resolves the issue(s).

Re: Blue Screen of Death/Reinstall

A reinstall rewrites the registry of OS, so all the previous installations will be gone. The only thing that will stay, will be the directory structure. Yea you will have to reinstall the software and drivers.

Re: Blue Screen of Death/Reinstall

:konfused: whatever the file winnt32 takes u from setup.. go with that

Dang! :bummer: I was really hoping to avoid having to reinstall the programs. Drivers, etc. are no problem i can do that. But all the software will be a pain in the rear.

So what can i do to possibly fix the current install w/out redoing it from scratch? (I’ll try and get the error code that i get when blue screen pops up). But what usually causes memory dumps?

Re: Blue Screen of Death/Reinstall

Restore your OS to a previous date when it was working fine.

Re: Blue Screen of Death/Reinstall

Okay, just checked. Cannot do that. My restore points are only available for the past 3 days and nothing beyond that.

And this issue has existed for a good week and a half.

Make a lot of Doodh Soda ... Put the jug on your table ... and start installing your system from scratch :)
