blue gods

Why are some of the gods illustrated in drawings etc as blue (color of face)?

I have been watching this Lord Krishna celebrations being featured in the Pakistani news, and they showed some mela where kids were getting their faces painted blue, and the statues had a blue baby.

Re: blue gods

From what I learned in the World Religions class, a god drunk poison to save the world (or someone/something else) and it is because of the poison that the colour changed to blue.

Re: blue gods

Re: blue gods

Krishna was dark skinned and is depicted as blue.

Neela thothaa isnt sulphuric acid, its copper sulphate. :)

Re: blue gods

EDITED: Please do not pass on such insulting comments. Allah strictly commands muslims to prevent from abusing other religions' dieties (Quran 6:108).

Re: blue gods

we can trash each others gods nothing will happen.

Re: blue gods

not really. "krishna" means dark/the dark one. lord krishna was supposed to be the color of a rain cloud. the way he has been depicted in paintings has changed from black/dark brown to blueish black with different schools of art, and blue has come to stay in the last few centuries.

Re: blue gods

I am not trashing anyone’s god, my Hindu neighbour…

Queer: Have you ever watched Mahabharata on Zee? I have…I can link parvati all the way down to Aik Dant’s legacy…

Re: blue gods

if i say bad about allah nothing will happen

Re: blue gods

May Allah (swt) forgive you on your ignorance and I would suggest you to avoid saying such things. When you are so sure nothing will happen than something will happen.

Re: blue gods

i have never watched Zee, but the link is no big deal - Parvati is Ek dant’s mother.

Re: blue gods

if i say bad thing about krishna nothing will happen it is just a faith realx

Re: blue gods

Thank you.. I knew you would know that.

Re: blue gods

Mughal…Wallahi I have not insulted anyone’s god…

My father is from India, all his friends were Hindus and he has read Hinduism a lot…He is very much a Indian at heart and is opposed to the partition happening…(Lots of interesting argument ensue…I am a Paki at heart)…

I will write exactly what he has told me as I asked him this same question:

Krishna is blue or dark because, one of the other gods, the serpent god Nag Raj bit krishna for some reason…As a result he didn’t die (being a god) but it turned his skin blue…

And as for the PM :jazak: …I am going to post that Ayah you sent me here, so that non-Muslims can know why Muslims don’t insult other people’s faith;

Quran 6:108
**Revile not those unto whom they pray beside Allah lest they wrongfully revile Allah through ignorance. Thus unto every nation have We made their deed seem fair. Then unto their Lord is their return, and He will tell them what they used to do. **

I apologise to those non-Muslims who felt offended…

Re: blue gods

Why did Nag Raj bit Krishna?

Re: blue gods

What/who is Aik Dant?

Re: blue gods

AQ: No clue...

PCG: Aik Dant is Ganpati, the elephant headed god...

Re: blue gods
