Well i was curious that ..how many of you know your blood type/group?
For one I dont know mine ..and so second question is .. how do i find out mine? what is the procedure..(I live in UK - so UK methods please)..
and thirdly, what are the benifits or mainly reasons for knowing or requiring a blood group/type.

Ps. Greatly appreciated if Any Doctors would give Info as it will be more authentic for me.

well… if u will knw it suppose if someone will need the blood and his blood group will be same as urs u wll be able to give him…

Thirdly …its easy all you need is to go to a blood bank or lab and ask them to draw a lil blood to check your blood group
Fourthly…It always helps to know for several reasons…u might have one of the less common ones and can be a donor or your wife is RH Negative and if your RH postive it helps to know since she will require Anti D during her pregnancies to protect the babies from getting sensitized …amongst a few examples.***
Sorry dude .. well even i knw this much that its good to know the group in times of giving blood ..blood transfusion or when a woman is pregnant …and i am none of the above ..
so am sure these more reasons to knw your blood type or your asked for it ..

I was born in 84 and my birth cirtificate was issued in 92 .. and its pakistani .. lol nothing about blood group there lol

born in 84 as well, and yes at that time no one cared about birth certificates. However i knew mine since i was a little kid. mine is O-ve.
you can get it checked at any laboratory. its very easy.

Having to know blood type is good but with technologies available everywhere it is not so much essential in western countries at least. Even in other places, no one will give you blood without knowing your blood type. Even rare blood type is not so rare in west and there are alternatives to blood available for emergencies.
It takes only a couple of minutes to know blood type so time is not really wasted there.
Regardless if you know the blood type no one will just give you blood without cross matching your blood with the blood you will be receiving. Your word may not be enough for someone to be responsible in giving you blood.
Regarding this pregnancy issue, these days OB's do do the typing at early visits or even for those who plan to have children. This incompatibility does not really cause so much issue in first pregnancy anyway so by the time second pregnancy occurs, your doctor already tells you. Unless you plan to live in a jungle or have delivery on the street.... :)
Fortunately, this incompatibility is not so common in non-Caucasians and the disease itself is not always so serious (but can be very serious) in subsequent pregnancies.
Like I said it is good but really not essential these days if you are in big cities or around good health care facilities.
Trust me chances for you getting blood on the street by someone not knowing your blood type or giving you blood after just asking you or seeing your birth certificate is zero percent. :)

Knowing blood group is better for emergency cases either you are a patient or you want to help a patient.
Mine is O -ve. The first time I got to know was in the Biology Lab of my college, but I didnt believe as my blood was dominating the antibodies. :D

I am glad that mine is the most common type so just in case, there should be plenty availabe.
And just in case you (or anyone) need the blood in emergency the truck with loads of different type of blood will be conveniently there on the road waiting for you to tell them which type are you?
If you are a donor, then it does not matter, you give blood for exchange for correct type for the receiver.

and i think O- (negative) is one which difficult to find.
Well i don't knw the procedure in UK! but u may go to any medical lab and can check ur blood group. It better if u accompany your family members so in case of any emergency u knw which blood group is match and u can donate your blood including you'll knw k whether your blood is clean and donateable or not. :)
