blood oozing out of chicken (tmi)

Whenever i bhoon the chicken ,lots of blood starts to ooze from the bones specially the drum stick n thigh bone, i ve tried everything, washing before freezing ,defrosting it,thawing it in warm/hot water, cooking fresh chicken not frozen but the problem is the same.
Ive also tried bhooning at very hot heat, covering the pan, putting a lot of oil…
Is it possible that the chicken is not zabiha halal? the shop we buy our meat from says it is zabiha halal ,theoretically, all the blood is supposed to ooze out from the animal when u zabah it
I dont know what to do,yesterday,i cooked biryani n couldnt bring myself to eat it ,i was disgusted

Re: blood oozing out of chicken (tmi)

Interesting. do u buy all ur meat from one specific place? try buying it from a different store?

Re: blood oozing out of chicken (tmi)

Its because they dont give it enough time after slaughtering the animal for all the blood to drain. The make pieces quickly.

Re: blood oozing out of chicken (tmi)

Buy chicken without legs or buy boneless chicken , mutton and beef.

Any kind of meat and bones will still have some blood left in them , because blood starts to clot immediately after you slaughter animals. All the blood will never drain out.
I have no explanation of Quran mandating , not to consume blood , but what we do about this left over blood in the meats and bones of animals. Only few parts will be consumable if we fulfill this requirement if we go by literal meanings of Quran.

Re: blood oozing out of chicken (tmi)

ive tried buying it from different places but the supplier is the same

Re: blood oozing out of chicken (tmi)

i want to know do u ppl have this prob or see blood oozing out? is there any solution ?

Re: blood oozing out of chicken (tmi)

I dont remember ever having this problem and I am not sure what to do about it.

Re: blood oozing out of chicken (tmi)

use a syringe and extract all the excess blood b4 cooking :D

Re: blood oozing out of chicken (tmi)

Younger birds have that problem. The simplest thing you could do is to cook your chicken at a higher temperature for longer. That should sort it out.

You shouldn't get blood though, not at all. At most you should get juices from the meat. Just try cooking it for longer and that will help.

Re: blood oozing out of chicken (tmi)

I agree with *Mirch *, try to buy boneless since the issue you are facing is really horrible one ... it shouldnt happen .. not even with the non zabiha, I have never heard that blood oozes out like this .. the only time this is bound to happen is when its been freshly slaughtered ...

Also further to what GIDSA said, try to cook it on high temperature initially and put lots of garlic in ... also dont put the lid on at this stage ..

if the problem persists , perhaps you can try to boil the chicken a bit , first and then bhoon it ... that might help ... but most importantly see if you can find a different supplier ...

Re: blood oozing out of chicken (tmi)

thaNKS EVERYBODY for ur advice
CB thats what i do now i boil it first n throw all the water n then use it for cooking
also im going to buy it from arabic supplier from now coz desis will always be desis n** GIDSA **u r right ,the birds r much younger, infact they call it baby chicken

Re: blood oozing out of chicken (tmi)

You need to wash chicken pieces thoroughly in a lot of water. Take out the blood veins from thighs and just give the bird a good wash before cooking. Chicken must be bhoonified on high heat without adding much water to ensure all the meat juices from bones are extracted and dry.

Re: blood oozing out of chicken (tmi)

I don't think its something of concern because there is always a little blood in the bones but the cooking process should take care of that. Make sure you cook it well enough and for long enough. Once cooked there shouldn't be any blood oozing out.

Re: blood oozing out of chicken (tmi)

I've seen it happen with chicken legs. And I just try to wash out whatever I can get.

Those of you who say cook/buy boneless should know that cooking with bone is more nutritious and that meat on bones tends to be more tender, so many people cooking for families/children prefer to use bone.

Re: blood oozing out of chicken (tmi)

^ Is it really more nutritious? I thought boneless chicken breast is hte healthiest cut of em all. :konfused:

Re: blood oozing out of chicken (tmi)

do you use frozen chicken? or fresh from the meat shop chicken?

i find that when i freeze the chicken and then cook with it later, the blood oozes out.

but when i buy the chicken right the day of, there is no blood that oozes out.

Re: blood oozing out of chicken (tmi)

I don’t know about nutritious but chicken or any meat with bone in is more flavourful and more tender. Boneless chicken goes tough really fast if overcooked because its not as tender to start off with. Tenderness is dependent on fat and part of the animal the meat comes from.

Re: blood oozing out of chicken (tmi)

yup bones have nutrition too and most certainly bones wala meat is alot more tastier then boneless .... I normally use boneless for karahi's only ... but for most of the other salans and biryani or pilao its bone wala meat ...

Also you might have heard that when people fall ill , they are asked to have chicken stock soup ... basically in a good chicken stock , the meat is cooked along with the bones .. that makes it nutritious to the core ... later the bones are chucked out ...

Re: blood oozing out of chicken (tmi)

This is what Mary from about.com had to say about it.
Bone marrow, sucked or spooned from the center of a bone, is rich in healthy fats, protein and iron - but chicken bones don’t have much marrow. Chicken bones simmered in soup, increase the calcium content of acidic broths, such as when tomato or vinegar is an ingredient. Bones also release gelatin, a protein, into the broth. But never swallow the chicken bone itself because chicken bones can perforate the bowel and that requires surgery. I have not see calorie information about chicken bones.

Re: blood oozing out of chicken (tmi)

^ Yep, thats right the bone marrow gives the flavour and I totally forgot there would be some nutrients in it too.
