I don't know what English dictionary you use but confront does not necessarily mean 'go and kill the cartoonist' in my book. challenge the guy and condemn his actions in the strongest possible terms, meet him face to face in a defiant way if you have the guts.
I think i would listen to what the Prophet (sas) said regarding what to do with he who slanders him....than you.
And what the Prophet said was evident from what he commanded his Companions regarding Ka'ab ibn Ashraf and Abu Rafi'. He had them ASSASINATED. Not just killed, fighting in a battle, face to face....but assasinated. They were killed with minimum effort.
And this is the ruling regarding he who slanders the Prophet.
By your logic all the muslims living in the West should just get the hell out of there because some of these western governments are harboring, protecting and facilitating those people who are slandering Islam and I should call you a hypocrite if you are residing in US or Canada (despite their governments support for Danish government and media)]
Its not just logic...theres a Sahih Hadith on this. And you already see the logic in it...Mashallah :)
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said, “I am not responsible for any Muslim who stays among polytheists. They asked: 'Why, Apostle of Allah? He said: ‘Their fires should not be visible to one another.’, and he (peace be upon him) said, “Who joins the polytheists and lives with them then he is like them” and he (peace be upon him) said: “Migration will not end until repentance ends, and repentance will not end until the sun rises in the west.”

That is almost akin to saying since the PA (rightly or wrongly) carried out the operation in Lal Masjid, it gave the freed miscreants (yes I do believe that some of them were ghoomey huey) the right to harm and kill any soldier or policeman they could pounce on. Just for once think about the families of those who were targeted and killed because they belonged to a certain organisation (i.e. security service - PA/Police). Does your mind accept this? And if it does then I don't know what to say.
Hazrat Jee, in a state of war no one cares about the families of those from the opposing party. Kis duniya mein reh rahe ho? Do the Western Powers and their allies (read: puppets) in the Muslim World care? Did you see the Pakistani Government caring about the the families living WITHIN the Lal Masjid Complex when the bombarded it with White Phosphorus?
Please get off your high horse and smell the ugliness of the entire situation.
