Black tie wedding....

Im invited as a guest to this black tie wedding and im totally confused coz i dont know what to wear! I know it has to be either a gown or a mid calf length dress but I dont want to go crazy either as im just a guest. Also before leaving i will have to the mandatory modeling in front of my mil and sil and dont want them eyeing my cleavage too much or making comments later about what a “vulgar” dress i chose. So i want the dress to be kind of decent with not too much going on like embellishments/embroidery and at the same time not make me look like a bridesmaid or mother of the bride either. If anyone who has every been to a black tie wedding american/european wedding, plz advice which one of these 3 that im considering so far will look best? Please let me know if u guys have any other recommendations too…

Re: Black tie wedding....

All the dresses you posted are fine but here's the question....how much skin are you (or your MIL) is ok with? Is sleeveness ok? On the 1st and 3rd dress, are YOU and your MIL ok with the amount of cleavage showing?

Re: Black tie wedding....

Sleeveless is ok and i guess i will go and try them all out to see how low the neckline is. Just wanted to get an opinion whether im choosing the right dresses or not coz i dont want to look too "bridesmaidy" or "matronly".

Re: Black tie wedding....

Whats black tie wedding?

Re: Black tie wedding....

I love the first one in the violetish color and in blue… with some beautiful heels it will look amazing. It looks like u could adjust and pin the bust area in a way to reduce cleavage showing…
It is not too much at all!!! Bridesmaids usually have like a shiny fabric or wear something similar to each other so don't worry. This is not too much at all.
The second one is hideous though :(

Re: Black tie wedding....

i would still go in shalwar kameez

Black tie wedding....

She can't do shalwar Kaneez for a black tie event. Black tie events are strict in dress code. I like the black the best. Not to much cleavage at all nor does it look bridesmaidish at. It will look amazing with gold themed jewelry.

Re: Black tie wedding....

Ok great! My votes were for the first one too, just wanted a 2nd opinion. I think I'll go for the violet, it's an evening event. So what jewellery do u think will look good with violet/ purple? Gold/ diamond/ Swarovski?

Re: Black tie wedding…

I like the “Julie Twist” by Donna Morgan. Very elegant and classy. And is just looks regal in Amethyst.

Add a gold hair band to give it that Greek goddess look.

Re: Black tie wedding…

Good to hear sleeveless is ok..lol. As mentioned already, bridesmaids should all match at least on their colors (if not also the dress style) so I wouldn’t worry about that.

The 1st one you choose in the dark purple is pretty. I went through some of the dresses just for fun and here are some othesr I liked just incase you don’t like that one when you try it on. Cleavage won’t be an issue with any of these.

Oh and yes, please no salwar kameez at a black tie event. There is a reason the hosts are telling you its a black tie event lol. It means there is a particular dress code they’re asking their guests to follow. There are plenty of options out there for people who want to stay covered.

Re: Black tie wedding…

I personally don’t like any of the ones you posted.

The Adrianna Papell one Paheli posted is nice.

I prefer these sorts of styles for something that doesn’t show cleavage:

Re: Black tie wedding…

Ooh! they are all so pretty. I like the 1st and the 3rd, will check them out too. Also i heard that its better to avoid colors like black, bright red/neon colors and definitely white coz only the bride wears white. Black coz thats worn on funerals and bright red/ neon colors coz its considered rude as u dont want to steal the show on the somebody elses wedding day. Like the bride has to be the center of attention. So, if I finalize on the first one i posted in that violet/amethyst color, what kind of jewellry would go with it? any suggestions? What about nails? Im thinking of getting a nice clean french manicure.
Also i might get a nice blowdry like kate middleton style!

.

Re: Black tie wedding…

Love the second one! That blue is gorgeous!

Re: Black tie wedding....

^ nothing beats the 1st choice. If you are worried about the cleavage ( I dnt think the dress is that deep but if it still shows) , try pinning it a little higher if that does not work you could carry a stole, very light weight one so your dress still can be seen through the stole.

Lol I'm so excited about the dress !!! Do let us know what you end up buying.

the blue lori lee!!

Re: Black tie wedding....

There's no rule against wearing black for non-desis. Especially for a black tie event. Heck majority (if not all) men will be wearing black suits!

For a wedding, its best to avoid outfits that are totally white, beige, creme, champagene, light peach etc. colors. For a formal black tie wedding, I would recommend sticking to darker colors (black, grey, navy, dark purple/green etc.). I always try to stick with darker colors for evening/formal events simply b/c they look more elegant.

Obviously there are many way of doing this based on personal preferance, but if I was planning on wearing that amethyst dress (1st one you posted), this is what I would try to do:

Hair: Nice blowdry is fine
Shoes: Pewter/dark grey heels; Ideally they should be strappy ; having some sparkle would be great since the dress in plain
Nails: Dark purple vampy nails. I personally don't like french manicures but that's a very personal preference.

Jewelry: Long earrings with dark grey/pewter colored stones (matching shoes & bracelet). Engagement & wedding ring. Grey or dark purple clutch.

Re: Black tie wedding....

I agree! The Lori Lee Blue Maxi is very striking without being OTT.

Re: Black tie wedding....

who said that you can't wear shalwar kameez to a black tie event????
an elegant shalwar kameez can be way more "black tie" than some of these "jersey" dresses.......
even a beautiful black on black sari would look amazing.

Re: Black tie wedding…

Thats a gorgeous blue dress! Fabric says 100% polyester, is that like chiffon?
