In light of the fact that there is a movie titled “white men cant jump” how would you feel if there was a movie titled “black men cant read”
what would you think the reception would be for a movie title as such?

Re: black men cant read
burning theatres because african americans are very emtional
Re: black men cant read
does it mean that the latter title is right and they are emotional or that the first title was not right either?
Re: black men cant read
Erm, not sure I understand the point. But its like a Paki can call another Paki a Paki, but a non Paki cannot. I dont personally believe this. But my brother reckons it has something to do with respect. As in, a paki doesnt have to respect themselves as long as a non paki does respect them.
If I fail to make much sense, blame the antibiotics. I am ill. :halo:
Re: black men cant read
But its not a question of a a pakistani calling anoher pakistani a paki. It is a question of societal acceptance of racism in some forms but not the others..
the racist jokes that are a norm in 'black' movies or the stereotypes these movies poke fun at, whether it is white or desis, would the same type of open stereotyping be accepted in mainstream cinema?
Re: black men cant read
I think that was my point. As in its ok for them to do it, but not for anyone else to do the same thing as they are not them.
I just used the Paki thing as an example.
Re: black men cant read
well white men cant jump...is a bit different from cant jump...thats being taken in a funny sense
i still think tho that the black men cant read wud b taken more offensively

Bangladeshis CAN read. One of them just won the noble prize. Whats wrong with you.
Re: black men cant read
but can one group mock other groups yet be up in arms when it is mocked itself?
Re: black men cant read
oh god..
Re: black men cant read
errr nope, guess again ![]()
Re: black men cant read
Yes. Its not a matter of it is right or wrong, it happens because it can. Like everyother wrong doings in the world. I mean, why do people lie? Because they can.
Re: black men cant read
lol...okay umm well
all the black societies would be fired up and it'd be on the news for a couple of days...but i think that the "white" title is not as worse as the black one considering racism is till a hot topic...and blacks look for every excuse to show how people are still racist
Re: black men cant read
Hahaha. Sorry but you said "blacks look for every excuse to show how people are still racist"
Thats because people are still racist. I mean how many Pakis do you know who would trust a black person?
Our plumber is Black and our next door neighbour who happens to be Indian has such a problem with our plumber coming over to fix something. The plumber has been alone in the house and everything. He is like the most trustworthy plumber I know. He even tidy's up after himself! Yet our neighbour always makes uncalled for inappropriate comments about him.
Ignorance will always exit.
Re: black men cant read
that’s true..but come on..they get fired up over every little thing…we know people are racist but dont give the media another racist remark to write about..and yes pakistani people are racist..or atleast the ones who wernt born here or brought up here but i think it has to do more with aunties and uncles…the young people seem to be fine with it…have u seen those desi wanna be blacks:halo:
Re: black men cant read
OK you know, I really need to stop reading this site sometimes.
I cant actually reply to you as im afraid I wont be neither tactful or diplomatic about it.
But I will say one thing. The media do not need a reason to write rubbish, they do it anyway.
Re: black men cant read
It means that first title was humor but the latter title was showing discrimination. And all the behaviors of african americans are due to the dicrimination provided by so called most intelligent white americans
Re: black men cant read
could humour not be racist humor? could humour not be discriminatory?
the title is a stereotype of the lack of atheletic prowess of whites..a common thinking among blacks.
as far as the behaviors of african americans…do they have to do wrong because they were/are wronged?
Re: black men cant read
Fraudia is saying it is hypocritical to attribute characteristics to white people such as not being able to jump, dance etc., which is racist, and then complain about people attributing characteristics to your race, in this case black people. If you watch any black comedians they will always make racist comments against white people such as 'paki' cab drivers. If someone were to make similar 'jokes' against black people, it might cause a riot. This is probably because black people are sensitive about racism. Suppose I made a joke about 'indian' cab drivers, the black community would be upset.
Re: black men cant read
a little off topic, but the title of the movie had little to do with the theme, even though I saw that movie a long time ago, back in 1993 or something... It was about two hustlers (woody and wesley), a white guy and a black guy hustling their way in basketball, and woody looked like a loser who couldnt dribble, which helped them hustle their way through, making a sucessful team. The title of the movie actually went against this idea of them working as a team dont you think? Oh, and that girl who played woody's girlfriend, she stole the show!
