MS, alright you're an academic. well and good. but are you engaging in this debate as a non-Muslim and seeing us as non-Muslims too? THat's what I gather from your posts. You don't think that being a Muslim has anything to with factual debates.
Again you will come and tell me it has nothing to do with your/my beliefs BUT it has EVERYTHING to do with it unless you assume from the first that we're all non-believers in this debate.
When a Muslim believes in something, he does not say "it's fact." It's beyond fact. It's God's creation, which is beyond our "academic" thinking.
So you gotta say in clear words what you mean by
** If you want to call something a fact, you MUST prove it.
**
because we common folk are not getting your point.
You've made several assumptions about me which are wrong. But my personal opinions and beliefs here are not relevant.
**I have been insulted by those who do not have the mental capacity to engage in a decent debate, and instead throw out ad hominem attacks and present their personal biases as facts. **Nor have I doubted anyone's beliefs. I stated that belief is separate from fact. If people want to yell at me, they can go right on ahead. I can see how dim some people are from this thread, as they can't understand the basic concept of dismissing personal bias from an intelligent discussion.
This is exactly what separates common folk from academics.
And btw, I do have a broad Islamic knowledge. I majored in Religious Studies and Sociology, and I continue to work and study in the field.
I think it's the other way around. You don't seem to have the mental capacity to realize that this isn't one of your research assignments or topics that you're trying to debate. It's religion damn it. Dont you get it?

If I were in a masjid, I'd consider it as such. But when people are discussing the possibility of magic actually working (and all the consequences that arise from this belief), this is where I come in :)
Figure out the difference between facts and belief.
^ Thank yew to all those that agree with me on this.. i'm done! I really have NO proof to show people that question things written in the Quran and still want proof from it... so for them it's not enuff that Allah himself has sent down the Surah's and messages. MS, u also said "there's no such thing as black magic" where's the proof?
U accuse people of not having been to Uni's, what u're saying makes NO sense to majority of us!
Black Magic is not really a belief....as people have mentioned it's not even a part of religion.....people from different religions or with no religion have experienced it.
And for any muslim, if it's talked about in Qur'an it's a FACT!

So what are you afraid off then? Seeking facts will not disapprove the truth, but help the truth be understood and propagated.
Seeking truth can, amazingly, help us understand the Quran in a much better way.

I dont understand why some people don't believe in black magic. It has been done on our Prophet so there shouldn't be any denying of its existence. I think that you dont believe in it until it happens to you. I understand people who dont know much about it and thats why they say they dont believe in it. But i really get pissed at people who dont know anything about it and make fun of others who are affected by it. From my personal experience i think that there are certain people who are too vehmi type ....they blame everything on jaduu and its because of them that no one believes when someone actually suffers from black magic.
Some years ago, I believed in black magic (because our Prophet suffered from it and its been mentioned in Quran too ) but never really thought about it because never had anyone around affected by it. Then someone decided to ruin my life so they did it on me. In begining, it took me quite some time to know that. I have read posts from other people too on this forum somewhere and the symptoms were so similiar. It affects you alot when ur going through it and people usually need support (mental and psychological)from people around them so those of you who dont know anything about it, dont just make fun or deny it.
So what do you say to someone that claims to do all of the above, and more, and still is troubled?
Simple.
You don't give up on Allah Ta'lah swt. Its easy to say this - but I know from experience that a strong faith can overcome all the harsh tests in this world.
My MIL, as much as I love and respect her, does some very strange things. I am only talking about her here as you guys will only know me as 'iggle' and that's it. Lol.
When someone does something that upsets my MIL or says anything to her children, she takes out maida, atta or sand and puts it in a flat, metal dish. She plays around with the sand, atta etc for quite some time and her lips are always moving - then she shakes the metal dish and various images appear in the sand e.g. faces or very sharp lines.
E.g
Once someone sent several love letters to her daughter. My MIL took out the sand and dish. Then she made this face appear and it was the face of the one who sent the letter! Freaky but she did it somehoww. The face was of another female cousin who my sister-in-law broke up with and that female cousin wanted to take out some revenge. My MIL's lips would keep moving for sometime and then she would shake the dish to make the images dissapear. They confronted the cousin afterwards.
But I don't believe in doing such things as they freak me completely. My MIL showed me few times what she would do - but she would not reveal what she would read. I knew then something was wrong. I would remain quiet and read kalma. My instincts would just make me kalma as it felt too wrong.
This looks like black magic to me - as its not normal! Lol. Has anyone ever seen or heard anyone who does this?
