Often, I hear people make comments that bad things happen to others around them because somebody has put their evil ‘nazar’ on them or the person is cursed cause somebody performed ‘kaala jaado’ against them.
What exactly is this kaala jaadoo? What does it consist of? How does one go about performing it (not that I want to )? Also, does anybody have any personal experiences with this or know of somebody who has performed/experienced it?
Recently, I discovered that voodoo is the unofficial religion in the Dominican Republic! Scary stuff!
Yes, my parents know someone who had voodoo done on them. That person was buried alive. Luckily, and I dont remember the details, he got out of his grave and lived a normal life after. All of this was witnessed by parent, so its not a legend. Infact I am not allowed to go to the country this was witnessed in. (Parents wont allow it.) sigh Scary stuff. Not only that, but other stuff. Wouldnt want to say all of them here though. I am a firm believer in its existence. Seen it happen infront of my own eyes. Allah, nazar se bachai.
Wow ... care to send me an e-mail with the details? :D
What I don't understand is, why would somebody perform black magic against someone else? How jealous or cruel can someone be to just watch another person suffer?

I can send you some details sure hehe.
Umm, u'd be surprised as to the lengths some ppl go out of jealousy. Even I was shocked when I heard and saw certain things. shudder
From what I have heard black magic is performed by reversing ayats from the quran along with some other scary stuff like reading those ayats in a certain sequence in graveyards at late night etc etc.
As for y someone would do such a thing? Out of jealousy, to get back at people, to make them suffer, to bring them ill luck, to ruin their lives, to deprive others of what the want, to bring them misery...all out of sheer hatred and evil.
black magic is also mentioned in Quran, it was very common during musa :as: . plz do correct me if i am wrong.. there r shops where u can go n get books n stuff for it.. pretty creepy stuff.
yeah, but Kabalah isn't exactly evil magic. It does involve magic, but it is practiced more spiritually. Actually, if I recall correctly, it was quite big back in medieval Europe. Now, Madonna has made it hip again.
Black magic has been around in diff forms in every culture since forever. Vodoo being the African form and 'kala jaadu' etc in our culture. The arabs call all magic 'sehar'. It's haraam and one of the 7 major sins leading to hell according to Islam. One of the Prophet's PBUH enemies did black magic on him. and that was when the two surahs; "AlFalaq" and "AlNas" were revealed. Allah told the prophet PBUH to recite them and said that it was the remedy to all evils.
There are many methods for performing diff kinds of curses or magic etc on ppl and its all basically out of jealousy or greed. Ive heard of the reversing of Ayahs, then there's some method were one has to sit on a freshly buried dead body in an opened grave at night, some require the blood of newborn babies etc. It's a crazy sick world... May Allah protect us all always from all evil.

Whilst there is a lot of Quranic evidence to suggest that in the past, some humans may have been able to do black magic, I do not believe that what people claim to be able to do through black magic today is anything but taking advantage of the gullible and superstitious.
Quite simply, if today's black magic actually worked, and if its practitioners were able to prove that it worked, they would be considerably wealthier than they are. They would be able to generate money not just though providing paid services to all levels of society, but would play an important auxialliary role to governments for decision making and offensive utilisation (such as cursing the enemies of the state)
The fact that most practitioners of black magic exist only in economically disadvantaged peoples, and are generally themselves quite poor would suggest that they are unable to actually ever prove that it works, and that "black magic" today is simply a case of using the past legacy of black magic as a means of scratching an existence today through deception.

disclaimer: i hate those who hoodwink our people through "magic" as much as any avg. joe and am not advocating their survival.
your argument doesnt necessarily hold. the fact that their economic stronghold, belief in magic, is eroded in economically developed countries does not mean that magic does nto exist anymore. magicians dont. because they cant make a living there.
i guess the closest analogy i can make is the fact that goats per household is probably higher in muslim countries than in non-muslim, economically progressed ones, especially around bakra eid, this does not mean that goats do not produce meat anymore.
furthermore it is also untrue that magic is not practices in developed countries. wicca..kabbalah are very much here, and magic is a part of both.
Again though, those who claim to practice black magic in either developed or undeveloped countries have consistently failed to demonstrate to any authorities that their "magic" works. By contrast, in the Quran, Pharoah, the leader of one of the world's most powerful countries, is described as having sorcerers who he would consult.
If these so-called black magic practitioners were actually able to make things happen, rather than prey on people's belief that black magic is still alive, they would take advantage of the publicity gained by proven their powers to gain money and positions of power and influence.
