If you want to get something for a girl who's not entirely focused on material things, give from the heart. Listen to her when you're out and about with her, women will make a fuss over and go goo goo gaa gaa over things that they want but can't justify spending on. I keep a list of things that my wife drools over while we're out and about and when it's time to buy a present, I refer to said list.
Now if you want to get something for a very materialistic girl like shweetdreamz, get a gift card, in fact just give her cash, that way she's not limited to one store. To me, cash just seems like a very impersonal and cheap way to give someone a gift.

i don't know where you live, but i know in toronto you can goto carlton cards and they have these gorgeous crystal roses. trust me she'll love it :)
