congratulations akmoti! its great that you had a natural birth. i have low pain tolerance and got my epidural at 3 cms after they broke my water so i have nothing but admiration for you for going all the way!
Re: Birth Stories
Congratulations akmoti!! you are so brave!
I took the epidural at 8 cm too.. the midwife and nurse tried to convince me to go without one and that I was almost there but I was in so much pain that I HAD to get one!!

Time for my birth story
On thursday 2nd feb (at 40 weeks +4 says) i noticed my babies movements were alot less so i phone the maternity day unit and they told me to come in for some monitering- my husband was at work and i told him to not bother coming home as i thought id just go in get checked and come home my sister came eoth me to hospital but after a while i told her to leave as her childen were home alone! Babys movement was fine alhumdulillah but they noticed my babies heartbeat kept dropping i went in around 4.30pm and they montiered me till 6 pm and advised me to go to the labour department to get monitered further as the day unit closes at 6! So i went to that departemnt and told my husband to come in. I was on continuous mintiering and at 11pm the doc came to see me babies heart rate dropped 3 times and they wanted to keep me in overnight to continue monitering babyand wanted to do a scan the ndxt morning and if all is ok with baby he thiught it was best if they induce me.
So m husband went with me to the ward got my settled in went home and got my bag and left. Next day friday 3rd feb i was getting montiered and ws told earliest time i could have scan was 3.30 pm after the scan which went well alhmdulillah doc came to see me at 5pm and induced me.
I started feeling mild cramps and was advised doc will come see me after 6 hrs to see how im progressing. At 10 i started feeling cOntractions and was in pain but they were not consistent! My husbqnd had to leave at9pm and midwife said to him if i go incto active labour they will call him in. M babies heartrate started dropping again the doc cameto see me at 11.45pm and done and internal examination- he said there had been hardly any prOgress and i hadnt dilated at all- he tried to break m waters but couldnt. He sid bahy is gettin distressed and that they had to do an emergency c section. I was in so mch pain and to hear all this i started crying docter started reading all the declaration details out and quickly mad me sign the midwife ofered to call my husband i said i would rig myself but i was cryin so much so i text him and my older isster and told them to get to the hosptal asap. Re: Birth Stories
My Birth Story.
23rd Feb came and passed and still no sign of baby. I was booked in for a membrane sweep to get things going on the 1st March. This was probably the LONGEST week of my life, hoping bubba would make its appearance before then. Every little pain I was thinking maybe this is it but nope she was cosy and staying put.
Midwife came round on 1st March at 10.30, checked me out and baby was low and i was 1cm dilated. She did what she needed to do...wasnt painful as I thought it would be which was a bonus and also booked me in to be induced.
Nothing happened all day - by now I had tried every thing to get labour started naturally.
At midnight I woke with slight pains , i also needed to go to the toilet where I saw my show- I thought YAY things are happening. The pains were getting stronger really quickly with contractions coming every 3-6 mins. I got hubby to call my parents and I rang through to labour ward to let them know, the response I got was "take a paracetamol and have a bath" I said to the lady no way, i want to come in to be checked out (as my friend recently had a stillborn due to the fact of her being sent home and i didnt want to risk it)
Got to the hospital at 12.45am, midwife checked me over and said I was 1cm and to go home because first time mums take ages to go into established labour. I refused to go home and asked for pain relief - she said i couldnt have anything yet as it was too early. She then said I can stay and be shifted into a ward but family would have to go home. She went away to let us decide what we wanted to do.
By this point I was praying so hard for her to let me stay where I was and to let my family be with me.
She came back and said i could stay as my BP was high...checked me again and i was 3cm...woohoo. Then a docter came to check me over -my mum thought he was going to do an internal..she freaked and asked for a female docter but he said he just wanted to have a look at my tummy which was fine by mum.
I couldnt handle the pains, was screaming from the word go, mum and hubby was massaging me, kept telling them off when they stopped bless them.
Midwife told me to walk to another room where I can give birth, i really didnt want to but they made me!
I was handed over to another midwife, she checked me and i was 5cm, she asked if i wanted a epidural, my plan was to avoid it but i jumped at the chance. i was given gas and air in the meantime. Docter came back to insert canula into my arms, bearing in mind im scared of needles at this point i really couldnt be bothered what was happening to me, i was so high. dont think he knew what he was doing because he tried 3 times and he coudnt insert it, blood was pouring out everywhere.
GAs and air was making me go funny and hubby took it off me, i snatched it back like a addict saying NO GIVE ME THAT BACK I NEED IT! and was saying things like "im sorry im shouting at you, your being so nice and im being mean" Midwife laughed and said to hubby dont worry this is normal.
Anesthetic came to give me epidural, midwife said she'll check again to see how much i had dilated and i had dilated to 9cm in 20 mins...bye bye epidural. She said I could have pethidine which I said go ahead to.
I didnt even know she had given me it, by now I was sleeping in between contractions and screaming my head off when i was having contractions. she told me to push when i got the urge to.
Not sure when my waters broke but she had to break my front ones.
I was pushing and pushing for god knows how long, and eventually babys head popped out, hubby was watching down there and mum had sat down in the corner praying for me as she couldnt handle seeing me in pain.
Baby was born at 6.21am and placed on me for skin to skin, hubby was asked if he wanted to cut the cord which he declined
I tore in 3 places with 2nd degree tears...had stitches, wiped my self down as I wasnt up for a shower
After baby was born i was buzzing and didnt sleep the whole day. Cant believe I managed to do it. It truly is worth it and would do it again to have her.
Midwife then joked with me "see you next year"...was thinking yeah right lol
i think i remembered it all - so thats my birth story

Re: Birth Stories
Here is my second birth story. I wrote it for my own remembrance and took out the names to share here. A is my husband and K is my 3 year old daughter. Sorry for some mundane details but thats how i wrote it for myself and i cant rewrite another version lol.
The due date given for Ibrahim’s birth according to my last period was February 15[SUP]th[/SUP] but the ultra sound due date was the 17[SUP]th[/SUP]. Since my daughter K came a week early, I thought he would too. But I was sorely disappointed. To make things worse, S who was due on the 28[SUP]th[/SUP], had her baby on the 12[SUP]th[/SUP] and Z who was due on the 21[SUP]st[/SUP] I think had hers on the 15[SUP]th[/SUP], same day as A had E who was due on the 12[SUP]th[/SUP].
All throughout, I kept wondering when he is going to come. A took me on walks every day almost although Kanzah’s dadi did not want us going out during these last few days. But these walks were so precious for us, because we got to spend some quality time with each other. On Feb 14[SUP]th[/SUP], I made his favorite lava cakes for him as V-day dessert and he made me get a foot massage at the mall after our walk. The massage was just plain awesome! Sooo relaxing.
On February 17[SUP]th[/SUP], at about 3:45 am, I woke up to go to the bathroom. I was having contractions during my sleep but I could sleep through them. But once I was up, I noticed I couldn’t sleep again. I timed them and they were about 8 minutes apart till 7 am. At 6 am, I drank a strong infusion of red raspberry leaf tea and wanted to throw up but didn’t. Before today, I would have contractions but they would fizzle out after an hour or so. At 7, A was wondering if he should go to work or not. Since the contractions weren’t that bad yet, I told him he should go and if I need him, I will call. Well, lo and behold, after 7 am, the contractions fizzled out again to once every 20-30 minutes. A wanted to skip work and take me on another walk to get them started again but I wanted to take a nap since I had been up since 4ish. So I slept in until probably after 9. K had also woken up at 6 am but I had made her go back to bed again so she also slept in. Once I got up, I got her up and ready for preschool. Abbuji took her to school at around 10:30. After she left, I put some laundry in and did random things around the house. A came home after jumaa since he had taken the rest of the day off. We had lunch together (yummy chicken karahi I had made the night before). We wanted to go for a walk but his mom didn’t want us to. We tried to stay home but then let Abuji take K out with him to get some things from Sam’s Club. She wanted to go with us so she started crying. Abu had to come back and my mom went with both of them.
Meanwhile, A and I left home to go for a walk but since I was having random contractions, I figured why not get checked at the midwife’s before the weekend so I will know if I have made any progress or not. We went to the clinic at around 3:30 pm or so. J was on call and she checked me and said I was a good 5 cms dilated. I couldn’t believe her! I mean I was having contractions but I wasn’t really timing them and they weren’t THAT bad yet. She suggested I go to the hospital right now. I figured A might say we should go home and come back in a couple of hours but he said we should go now. So we checked in around 4 or 4:30 and it’s a good thing we did. The intake process takes a long time. I eventually got a heplock in, got changed, prayed asar etc and walked in the corridor. Contractions were now getting stronger and coming closer together but I was still laughing in between them and talking normally. At 6ish or so, I prayed maghrib and isha together and walked some more. Justine suggested she break my water to speed things along. I said she can check me again at 7 pm or so and then she can break my water. Meanwhile, I got Aamir to take a last picture taken of pregnant me. I cant remember how much progress I was making how fast but it was pretty decent. So she broke my water around 7 15 or so. I now got into the whirlpool tub because I figured the contractions were going to get stronger now. I sat in the tub for about 30 minutes and the contractions were fizzling out. A made me get around 7:45-8 pm so they could monitor the baby. From then on, things started getting really bad. Until then I was doing ok, laughing, talking etc. But from then on, I was getting more vocal during contractions and moaning a deep throaty moan while hanging off the head board of the hospital bed. By this time, getting checked was getting painful since I had to lie in bed and baby checks were also getting unbearable. I made A get me some cold water since he was bringing me warm water till then. I also started getting a tiny bit of back ache and J applied a heat pad but I was getting way too warm by now and in a lot of pain. I started asking for an epidural and the IV pain med now, around 9 pm or so. I had told them before I didn’t want the iv pain med since I regretted getting it last time but if I want it I will let them know. Justine checked me before giving it to me and found I was fully dilated except a lip and she made me push while she pushed the lip aside. I was now told we could start pushing and it was too late for the pain meds. They started setting up everything for the delivery. The nurses were really helpful during this stage. The held my legs and told me to push with the pain etc etc etc. I was surprised when Ibrahim was born after just 15 minutes of pushing. I could tell his head was much smaller as compared to Kanzah’s since Kanzah’s crowning I could REALLY feel. They immediately put him on me and I said he looks just like a boy version of Kanzah. I held him for a bit but then I was shaking and trembling and was still in pain so I had A hold him. This time I had a partial third degree tear and I had to get a half dose of iv pain med to relax me enough for stitching up. A immediately called everyone at home to let them know. The stitching took a while.
Alhamdulillah, Ibrahim’s birth was much shorter, quicker and easier than K probably because she was my first. Overall, it was a much much better experience and I wasn’t as traumatized by everything as I was with K. Alhamdulillah. I also had more time with J before the birth at the hospital so I was able to talk to her about my fears and wishes etc. She also kept me in the loop about everything and followed my lead. I could not have asked for a better birth experience.
