Birth Control pills

How long before marriage should a female start taking birth control pills? And should one consult a gynaecologist before taking them or can one get them directly from a pharmacy?

Re: Birth Control pills

No one!?

Re: Birth Control pills

Yes, consult your doctor... I have heard one should start taking then 3-4months before getting married.

Re: Birth Control pills

Depends on where you are living whether you can get from pharmacy without prescription or not.....also it is advisable to see a doc before you go on the pill...

Re: Birth Control pills

You can start on them as early as u like.. Like Aaliyahkhan said tho it's best to see ur doctor first..

Re: Birth Control pills

3-4 months before getting married ? :konfused: REally? What if you dont? And what if you have chatt mangni, patt biyaah wala scene and you dont have 3-4 months for preparation?

Plus I am wondering if its advisible to use these pills at all? Dont they have side effects like problems in conceiving in future, especially for those ladies who are not in their early twenties but like near 30 or in 30s ?

Personally its always BEST to look for such kind of advices from your doctor.

Re: Birth Control pills

lol @ if it is chat mangani phat biya wali kahani....well then you will not post on GS to ask how early to start them but you will actually start them right away. Yes, they are very much advisable.

Re: Birth Control pills

ive read the above, but i still want to know whats advisable.

as a fact i know starting wid the pills can be at any time. if you take them 7 days in a row your save...

but other reasons to start early ive but dont know if its true:
-spotting, really want to know if that happened to any of you and how long it took to stop?
- i want to start d pills without a stopweek till the honeymoon, after this ill take it 3 weeks, 1 week stop.

Re: Birth Control pills

I started the pills about a month before getting married. I didnt take a break in between and just kept taking the pills because I didnt want to get my period. Well, it didnt work for me. I started spotting on March 1, then got a full period on March 3 and it lasted until March 9, then I spotted again until March 12 - the day of my mehndi!!!

If you have time before the wedding to take the week off, take it. But, the pill is effective after taking it for 7 days, so if you start even a week before your wedding, you will be fine - that is, if you start the first pill on the first day of your period. I think the reason I had the spotting was because I started the pill in the middle of my cycle, because I had irregular cycles, and thought i was going to get my period right around the wedding. Well the plan didnt work for me, because I got my period anyway!

Re: Birth Control pills

Aww poor you! so ur saying u might got the spotting and period because you started in the middle of your cycle and the other reason coz in the first month you didnt take the stopweek...

so you got the spotting during ur wedding days, what about it after.. was this only then or even the months after?

if i hear this i should atleast start 2 cycles b4 my wedding :s

Re: Birth Control pills

Just to share my experince I have started taking birth control in october and getting married on december ... it take 2-3 period cycle for ur hormones adjust and u can also oberve the side effects do to ur doctor ... if ur in USA they will give u the lowest dose the only side effect I had no desire to eat and smell of meat made me vomit for first month now its getting better

Re: Birth Control pills

I think the reason for the spotting was because I started in the middle of the cycle and didnt take the week off. I think if I started on the first day of my period like I was supposed to, and didnt take the week off, I would have been ok. But thats just what I think.

I started with the Pill called Yasmin, and other than that first month, I did not ever have any problems with it. I would actually know which day and which hour my period was going to come!! But after a few months, my doctor changed me to a pill called Loestrin, and with that, I used to get spotting every month. So it really depends on how your body reacts to the pill you are taking. And every person reacts differently to every pill.

Re: Birth Control pills

Dont use them. there are lots of othere way to prevent. Why having something which has a lot of side effects listed. Just Avoide it.

Re: Birth Control pills

omg i never thought of taking them and as a PCOS sufffer and irregularities of periods my unpredictable periods did its job and happend on my wedding night :o i think its best not to touch those pills they are full of bad things!

Re: Birth Control pills

i'm not sure how you know it as a fact, but taking the pill for 7 days in a row does NOT guarantee protection at all UNLESS you are already on the pill and want to delay your period.

you need to take your pill for at least one full cycle, i.e. a month before it comes into effect. the hormones need to build up in your system prior to it being an effective method of birth control.

speak to your doctor first about the pill and which one you should be taking. there are many different varieties on the market and if one kind doesn't work for you, then you need to stop it and start another. the pill is not candy- you can't just stop it and start it whenever, that will mess up your cycles.

if you want to take the pill without a stop week until your honeymoon, you still need to start it at least one month before the wedding and then you can continue taking it. the pill is a commitment and you need to take it on the same time, or close to the same time, every single day. don't just use it as a stopgap method because that is when the issues start.

if you want temporary birth control, you are better off using a condom. and if you can't remember to take your pill regularly, then you should consider either condoms or having an IUD inserted.

if the person you knew who took it for 7 days in a row, had sex and did not conceive, then there is a good chance that there was something else going on that prevented conception. it was NOT the pill. most likely she had sex on days when she was not ovulating and therefore did not conceive.

Re: Birth Control pills

sorry but that is just ignorant. and in fact, the pill is prescribed often times to get your period back on track and to make sure they happen regularly. since you have PCOS, you probably should be on the pill. regular cycles = regular ovulation and also you can better predict when you will ovulate when it comes time for you to conceive.
