birth control... is it allowed or not..?!?!

this topic has probably been brought up before.. but there’s still no clear answer. Does Islam allow or not allow contraceptives?

Some teachings indicate the “birth control” was practiced back in the day… but then there’s some really religious people who say that its not allowed b/c its almost like abortion.

Bottom line… are contraceptives (the pill, condoms… ect) allowed or not???

Re: birth control... is it allowed or not..?!?!

Birth control and abortion are not hte same thing. Abortion is the killing of a fetus. Contraceptives prevent a pregnancy from taking place, hence there is no fetus, no killing of it, so it's not an abortion.

All the information Iv'e read says that only (elective) permanent forms of birth control are not allowed, such as gettng ur tubes tied or a vasectemy.. condoms, pills etc r allowed, tho in my opinion nothing prevents pregnancy except not doing it. So u can take pills, use condoms, but if ur not prepared for a happy suprrise :) then don't do it :)

Re: birth control… is it allowed or not..!!!

that’s what i thought… plus I’ve just learned that condoms and pills are also available in pakistan . If it was haram, it wouldn’t be allowed in an islamic country… right? :konfused:

Re: birth control… is it allowed or not..!!!

Don’t look at Pakistan as “Islamic” country, please, you’ll get confused more than ever. Its just another country with Muslim majority.

Re: birth control... is it allowed or not..?!?!

Dude dont look at Pakistan as a Islamic country!

Also, pulling out isn't exactly the best method either... u can still get pregnant from it..

Re: birth control… is it allowed or not..!!!

Maybe this is why clerics, ‘religious experts’, etc should refrain from discussing subjects they know nothing about or have to do with religion because that statement is absolutely ridiculous.

Re: birth control… is it allowed or not..!!!

Semi i think i kno where htey get that idea from..a very UnIslamic source :yukh:

Re: birth control... is it allowed or not..?!?!

You know, I hate how they word things...the man has the right to have children...as if women are the only ones who want to be put on BC pills, and its the man who's being cheated!!!!

Sometimes, you know, the husband asks his wife to go on BC pills when SHE wants children, and that is haraam, because she has the full right to have children when she wants and you can't deny her that right. No matter how friggin poor you are or how unready you are for fatherhood. Too bad. You shouldn't have gotten married in the first place.

Geez. The misogynist bias is still there, although they word their sentences in such a way as to trick you.

Re: birth control... is it allowed or not..?!?!

Allah has rules that women are allowed to have as many children as they want whenever they want regardless of the husband's wishes? Or is that more of a personal rule?

Re: birth control... is it allowed or not..?!?!

^ mutual decision, can't work one way only.

Re: birth control... is it allowed or not..?!?!

Both husband and wife are supposed to work together.. he ought to be considerate of her body coz she'll hav to carry the baby, and she oughtta be considerate of his wallet, if he'll be able to provide for those kids.. it's two ways.

Re: birth control... is it allowed or not..?!?!

I think there was an actual Quranic verse or hadith I read on it not too long ago. Hm, maybe, I THINK, it was a hadith that spoke of withdrawal as a form of birth control.

It had the stipulation that you can use withdrawal, but if your wife wants to have a child, then you are not allowed to deny her that right (i.e. the condition where you can't use withdrawal).

Re: birth control... is it allowed or not..?!?!

And you know what, I think I actually posted that hadith. You can search my posts on birth control and withdrawal - it was a very recent thread on withdrawal.

I think I listed a whole bunch of hadith when armughal or someone claimed that withdrawal can only be used on slave girls, not on free married muslim women.

I am of the opinion that the couple making such a decision must understand that bringing up children well and providing them with education, moral values and so forth is responsibility of the parents. It is important in this context to note that, like any other decision in our life, our decision here must also be based on the value we will get in the Hereafter and not in this world. Consequently, a couple should not avoid a child in order to afford a better than the life-style permitted by Islam or to fulfill their other desires that are solely associated with this world. However, when the same choice is made taking into account factors like health, upbringing and education of the children, and making them into people who will be successful in the Hereafter, the couple may practically be taking the same decision but the thought process makes it quite different.
