Bill Gates to visit Pakistan

Microsoft chief, Bill Gates to visit Pakistan

Microsoft chief Bill Gates has assured that he would visit Pakistan soon. “I have heard and read a lot about Pakistan and I am keen to be there at an early opportunity,” he said in a chat with an English daily. He was in Davos for the World Economic Forum (WEF) annual meeting. Responding to a question, Gates said he had received an invitation from Pakistani leaders and he has already accepted it. As soon the schedule is finalised, he would undertake the trip. Gates said that the developing countries should devote their attention to education, alleviation of poverty and eradication of diseases. This could greatly help them to keep pace with the developed world. “Conflicts and clashes have harmed humanity, while harmony and respect for one another is the way to achieve success and make progress,” he said. Gates said Pakistan is among those countries which are emerging on the information technology map rapidly and it will have its due place in this world soon. Terming the ongoing reform process and development which Pakistan is making “remarkable,” he said, it would certainly pave the way for Pakistan to reach a place in the world that has been visualised by its leaders.

Gates hoped Pakistan would get it rightful position in the world of IT but it must not overlook its basic strength of agriculture and manpower. By applying modern technology in agriculture, Pakistan can bring about a revolution in its agro-economy. It must give due attention equally to industrialisation and agriculture growth.

about time he is thinking to visit Pakistan. wonder what prompted him to look beyond India.

Re: Bill Gates to visit Pakistan

Pakistani are very well educated, got good IT skills and the top of that Pakistani got better perception than Indians.

Re: Bill Gates to visit Pakistan

Encouraging news. It shows that the government's investment friendly poilicies are continuing to attract the world's largest companies and tycoons.

Re: Bill Gates to visit Pakistan

Gates coming to Pak good for you guys, but what made to write the above why u always have to compare with india ?

Re: Bill Gates to visit Pakistan

Because it is India that we have to care against the most. We do have to be militarily stronger from India. But that is only possible if we are economically stronger.

Re: Bill Gates to visit Pakistan

^^ A country of more than 1 billion Dravidians and around 150 million Pakis. I think economically that's a bit difficult. Pak just needs to develop its own technology by itself.

Re: Bill Gates to visit Pakistan

I am all for patriotism but this ^ is not factual. Literacy rate, any idea? and better perception of what? finally why the comparison to Indians?

Also if the 'promise' of a visit by Bill Gates, that too after being invited by the leaders of the country ...if this is what gets your national pride juices flowing, it is truly pathetic what Pakistan has become.

how about some self respect

Re: Bill Gates to visit Pakistan

holds your horses all of you.

the only comparison to india in this case wasnt due to any other reason apart from that.
India is doin great in IT.

until now Microsoft has minimal presence in Pakistan. and it wasnt considered well to visit by Gates in the past was only cause of perception of Pakistan. which is changing now.

Re: Bill Gates to visit Pakistan

well i dont think thats comparable. just spot any country in top 8 economic powers, population is not relevant.

plus luckily we dont have to feed over a billion people! so to become economic viable is more easier for country with less population but smart ecomomic plans, when get pace will get definite results.

Re: Bill Gates to visit Pakistan

First its the uplifting of the country's education. That uplifts the economy. That uplifts the technology. Rather, technology and economy are interdependent.

But education is the foremost.

Re: Bill Gates to visit Pakistan

When and If Pakistan will turn secular state then you will see real development.

Re: Bill Gates to visit Pakistan

I dont think secularism is the solution! nothing wrong with Islam but few fundos here and there. So dont confuse Islam with these illetrate lot wrong perception of Islam.

Islam no way stops development of the country, if it was the case. great empires of ottomon and cities like cardoba, granada, baghdad never had florished under muslims and nor did they have produced great scientists like Al hazen, Al Khuarzami etc.

Re: Bill Gates to visit Pakistan

^Different times, Different people. We don't have that kind of people anymore. Personally speaking (I maybe wrong but) I think state and religion should be seperate. For people in power too many personal gains/losses involved.

Re: Bill Gates to visit Pakistan

Gates will visit us, and that's great. He'll visit our hospitals and give us a few malaria tablets. He wont hear of the shia doctors being killed or the plight of christians in rural villages. Here's a rant he wont hear.

Secularism for us, is not a matter of open markets or modernity. In Pakistan it's about confronting a long history of institutional oppression where entire communities have been marginalized because they dont fit into the "islamic republic" of pakistan.

Understandably, some of us are scared to death when we hear about secularism. It's refreshing to remind naysayers what Islam has done for us. Even without secularism we've got paak brothels and halal alcohol.

Secularism does not mean we'll abandon Islam. We did that a long time ago. Instead, secularism can introduce a moral revival. We need a constitution based on Islamic principles not Islam. Secular states will always be based on religion. The USA is after all, Christian. Secularism isnt about burning mosques or slandering God, its about denying one group, the majority (Sunnis) absolute ownership of Pakistan.

Secularism will not give any ONE religion ownership of Pakistan. The sunni strong hold will fall. Shias wont be murdered for not being the right type of muslims. Hindus will be left alone for believing in a zillion gods. And, christians, the single most oppressed and traumatized minority in Pakistan will finally be able to rise up and say "pakistan is also mine".

Scrap the "islamic" republic of pakistan and you'll find how patriotic our minorities are, even after all the hardships we sunnis have put on them.

For us the debate over secularism is a debate over human rights. We'll modernize when all Pakistanis- Sunnis, Shias, Hindus, Sikhs and Christians can sit at a table not owned by a Sunni.

Re: Bill Gates to visit Pakistan

Guys,u know why India and China are considered growing powers, its because they have a huge middle class.Having huge number of resources is a strength now.It would be wonderful if Pakisthan also develops as an IT Hub.

Re: Bill Gates to visit Pakistan

yeah ok

Re: Bill Gates to visit Pakistan

Bechara microsoft virus maarte marte thak gaya hai.:)

Re: Bill Gates to visit Pakistan

Hope the majority of Pakistan starts thinking like you.

Re: Bill Gates to visit Pakistan

^They better if they want to survive.

Re: Bill Gates to visit Pakistan

I am very disturbed to read what you wrote, my Sunni brother. Did you know Quaid dreamt of a Sunni Pakistan? Pakistan can never become secular and should try to emulate the failed model of India. Pakistan is happy with its Sunni image. Islam makes us what we are.. Islam is the reason for our existence. We have greatest religious scholars in Pakistan and we are proud of them. We shouldn't try to become too modern. Islam teaches us that life should be simple and we should be respectful and humble to everyone. There's a wave in Pakistan to copy everything from the west- we should stop that. Hijaab and beard should be part of our lives. We should follow Shariah and I think even minority should do that.
