I think he ought to play a responsible father before a leader. His track record doesn't quite give the party a polished look it needs at this moment. I would have rooted for Bilawal but the lad is at the age of educating and learning, i'm sure his mom would've wanted that for him which is why you didn't see him active in the campaign with her.

Aitizaz Ehsan is definitely a contender. But will he conform to what Zardari is looking for? I can see Zardari breaking up PPP if the leader does not tow Zardari's line. Let's hope sense prevails.
I just hope and pray the PPP followers refresh their memories about mr. 10%.

I totally agree with DW. He's in no position to be any sorta leader for the biggest political party in the country. He should stay, and KEPT if necessary out of playing any major role in the party....i'm not for denying him any role in the party because that would just be wrong, he could prove productive in some areas. He could serve to solidify the party and instill people's faith in it (if needed at all) because people will most likely see him as a 2nd to BB. unfortunately.

I see a coming clash between the Zardari's and the Bhutto's over the leadership of the party.
Asif Zardari putting forward his son Bilawal v Ghinwa Bhutto advancing her daughter Fatima's claim.
If the 700,000 strong Bhutto clan led by Mumtaz Bhutto put their support behind Fatima, as she is the nasal prast waris of ZAB, then she will emerge victorious. But it will probably lead to bloodshed.

lack of a succession plan and being a one person party is teh biggest issue facing PPP right now. with good leaders like aitezaz around, they still dont know who to go to? why not even approach Imran Khan, he is popular, just does not have the infrastructure behind him.
PPP did not break up after ZAB died. and it will not break up now. It does have to make a crucial decision on whether it wants to pick leaders on merit and ability or to hoodwink ppl and to vote for a name and a political dynasty.
If democratic party in US was like PPP seems to be then every presidential election there would be a kennedy as teh candidate

Well, it is time for the leadership of PPP to stand up and be counted. It is people like Farhatullah Babar, Aitizaz Ehsan, Makhdoom Amin Fahim, that need to drive the party forward and rid it from the shackles of family ownership.

PPP needs aitezaz, and I humbly suggest they bring in imrana nd even iftikhar chodhry in the fold.
Not only will this be a winning team but is well respected by the public in recent months the person with the highest public support was iftikhar chaudhry and aitezaz.

Poor guy is barely past puberty and people want him as the next chairperson for PPP? Isn't Fatima Bhutto also 18years old? People need to get real...these kids are probably just done with their A-levels.
Why not Sherry Rehman? I'm asking that as a genuine question. She's quite vocal, has been all over the media, people know who she is, but perhaps a bit too volatile?

I'm hopeful the humble minds will reason with Zardari and he will give way (IF, n that's a BIG IFFF, he's sincere). To put his son in politics is like sending an infant to the battlefield, no father can/should do that, unless ofcourse...well...u know the rest.

One of these three truely deserve to lead the party, Shah Mehmood Qureshi would be good leader aswell !

I doubt she'll make it to be honest with u. Aitzaz, Amin Faheem are more likely to be named in the highest ranks. Whereas she plays a role similar to the one she has thus far (only cuz she's not fit for the role and hasn't the mechanism to get thru sticky situations, whereas other two have dealt with high waters head-on!)

THere is no comparison to ZAB times when he was murdered and when BB was assassinated.
THe break up will be due to Zardaris unpopularity as Reza already has stated.
Regarding IK, how can you expect a person to be confronted, who is enjoying his days in India, while going under cover for the last important days of the election campaigns. THis was the time to gain popularity, he did nothing.
Kennedys would have been in power in US for a couple of years If one of them would be alive now. US government never let this happen to succeed. We see simliarities don"t we?

That's not too bad actually....they might just drop the hammer on everyone outside the party and pick those unlikely players as a part of the new dreamteam. Because Imran had issues with BB, and she's no more, he needs support and mainstream platform to be leading from or to be a part of and what better that one that has an established foundation. Iftikhar carries the card of lawyers and others who are for Media, Anti-current, etc..etc...
Might just become the Chicago Bulls of 90's if they can put it altogether and pack it well.
