Bias towards women's dressing

-after browsing around in the Pakistani celeb section, one thing I have noticed is that a lot of the people here accuse the female celebs of trying to be western when they are wearing dresses / night gowns. Why does this only apply to women? There isn’t a single photo of a male celeb wearing shulwar kameez yet they don’t get labeled as a “westerner wannabe”. I see pakistani male celebs wearing these ridiculous western clothing with tight pants and stuff, yet no one accuses them of anything.
-I personally don’t find anything wrong with Pakistani females wearing western style clothing provided that it is classy, and most of the time they are dressed very classy. Yes they are in pakistan, that doesn’t mean that there is anything wrong with women wearing pants and dresses every now and than. No matter what they dress like, they will always remain pakistani.
-I’m not saying that we should stop wearing our traditional clothing. I just think it’s not fair that only women are forced to carry out the pakistani image.
-some of these people who are saying that women shouldn’t wear “western clothing” are women themselves

Re: Bias towards women's dressing

bravo

We men carry out the Pakistani image by doing chaiR chaaR to girls outside girls colleges and bus stop. Is not that enough

Re: Bias towards women’s dressing

Yes all women should be in shalwar kameez or burqay

Men should be in dhotis and baynaians..and when it is cold…shalwar kameez

:phati:

so are you suggesting that when it is cold, women should be in dhoti and banyaain ..

Re: Bias towards women's dressing

only if you call me daddy.

okay daddy.
this is getting really off topic. so lets just stop it here. I want some serious discussion regarding my original post. SAY SOMETHING PEOPLE.

Re: Bias towards women's dressing

what do you want them to say beta?

That pakistanis are chauvanisitc?
that we employ double standards?

That we expect a level of purity and desi-punna from our women that we dont extend to our men?

there is nothing new in this. The sky is blue and the birds are still chipping.

Re: Bias towards women's dressing

I wanna know why we have these double standards and I someone believes it is okay to have these standards, I want to know why?

Re: Bias towards women's dressing

hmm for women it's the whole modesty thing. having ur picture taken in a nightgown etc is i should say beyhooda at some level . pakistani women should be an example for the rest of the world, not conform to western ideas of "what's in" nomesayin?]

but it is unfair that the guys don't get picked on. we should hate on them more often.

perhaps men shouldn't also apply this "what's in" concept to themselves in pakistan to be an example for other men of the world and wear shulwar kameez at all times.

what's wrong with wearing a classy nightgown?

Re: Bias towards women's dressing

nothing at all they can be in the nude for all i care. just don't have the pictures leak out.that's all i ask:) it's the whole wearing barely there clothes, thinking ur all that and showing it to the world. there's a problemo in that

I absolutely agree. As pakistanis, women don't wear western stuff like that, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't wear appropriate "western" clothing at all.

Re: Bias towards women's dressing

Eh desis. We oughta wear more western clothes and if anyone has the guts to talk negatively about it we'll tell the males they weren't born wearing trousers and a shirt either shows off her jeans and tee

Shalwar Kameez on men looks like a "sleepy" outfit.. it's shabby and I have yet to see a guy look fab in it!

(except for Ali Zafar!)
