When I watch Pakistani media, i.e. dramas, I expect to see Pakistani fashion there - the orginality, class and tradition all mixed. It’s irritating to see the opposite happening. Reason why women get picked on more is simply because who the heck is looking at the men anyway :halo:. On a serious note, fashion industry revolves around the Female. Unfortunately.
-after browsing around in the Pakistani celeb section, one thing I have noticed is that a lot of the people here accuse the female celebs of trying to be western when they are wearing dresses / night gowns. Why does this only apply to women? There isn't a single photo of a male celeb wearing shulwar kameez yet they don't get labeled as a "westerner wannabe". I see pakistani male celebs wearing these ridiculous western clothing with tight pants and stuff, yet no one accuses them of anything.
-I personally don't find anything wrong with Pakistani females wearing western style clothing provided that it is classy, and most of the time they are dressed very classy. Yes they are in pakistan, that doesn't mean that there is anything wrong with women wearing pants and dresses every now and than. No matter what they dress like, they will always remain pakistani.
-I'm not saying that we should stop wearing our traditional clothing. I just think it's not fair that only women are forced to carry out the pakistani image.
-some of these people who are saying that women shouldn't wear "western clothing" are women themselves
Well said, it's not something I've ever thought about properly, but now you mention it, YES, its true and WHY does it happen? It shouldn't!
Unless the reason for anti-western dress for women is the lack of modesty - but that would depend on the stuff that is worn (revealing / very tight etc), where as when men wear it, its seen as modest bcos they are not exposing any part of themselves which is normally not exposed in the mainstream society.
But a lot of western stuff can be NON-revealing and more modest than alot of the pakistani salwar kameez fashions for ladies.
I say all men and women should wear lunghi's and vest tops, this will bring equality to the land of pakistan, FROM the land of pakistan.
by that i meant telling them that it's ok if women are dressed in western clothes. if they can wear it then we can aswell. "hate on them" = tell em who's boss
