Re: Bhatta mafia in karachi…
LOL
Now I will have to repeat myself ,like a broken record.
Karachi WAS ALREADY a developed and Cosmopolitan City , Suez Canal was opened in 1869 , and two years earlier to it , anticipatingly British spent 250,000 pounds sterling on the development of its port , it became the biggest exporting port of India ,especially all the agricultural produce from Punjab was exported through this port
its cosmopolitian population included, Jews, Iranians, Chinese, British , Australians, Goans, Malbaris , maybe a few Japanese , beside Anglo-Indians, Paris, Hindus, Christian, Muslims, Pathan, Sindhis, Punjabis, Balochis, Marwaris, Kathiwaris, Gujratis, Katchi memons, …even Sikhs…there still is a Gurdwara on Manora to testify that .
it was among 5-6 cities ,which had the then most developed and modern mode of public transport , ie the Trams , which continued well into the 1960 , as late as 1969 or maybe upto 1972 .
most of the glorious building you see belonged to Hindus and Paris , though Muslims were not far behind .
Let me give you another dark chapter , never discussed or even mentioned in our history , the first ever Curfew in the New Country Pakistan was imposed in Karachi , Jan 48 to be exact , when zealots Killed over 1000 non-muslims here , that created the scare , and it resulted in the flight of 1.2 Million non muslim sindhis , the third highest after 9.3 Million Punjabis and 3.2 Million Bengalis ,…out of a total of 14.5 ,figure out the percentages of the displaced persons due to partition and its REAL impact where it was felt and where it was the most severe …
the difference between the Punjab Holocaust of 9.3 Million displaced and 10 lac killed , and 3.2 Bengalis displacement was , those happened during and before partition , from 1946-47 onward peaking in Aug-Sep-Oct 47 , and then subsiding till Dec 47 , and from Sindh it started after 48 .
..there is enough material on the partition of Punjab , the latest being the monumental research by Mr Ishtiaq Ahmed , who spent 20 years , and used the Secret British Papers and First hand narratives of the survives to record this …any way coming back to Karachi .
it was the I think the first city ,which had a Metropolitian corporation , mayor of which was choosen on rotiational basis from Paris.Hindus and Muslims .
so lets stop distorting history and stop spin doctoring it , the loss of that educated middle class of sindh , robbed Sindhi and left it in the hand of left over third class leadership , whatever was left , it scrambled back into the interior , Like G M Syed he retreated back to Sun , and unfortunately , the new comers , did not filed in the GAP , rather they created their own isolated cocoon , sort of an alien like existence with superiority complex , without realizing or rather ignoring the deep scars they have created in Sindhi psychology by robbing them advertly or inadvertently of their educated Middle class..
