bhangi means sweeper/sweeperess who clean your toilet [especially in old days when we used to have open toilets, qadamche jo hote the gaaoN meN]
Are you sure KKF sweeper got Bhangi word in Urdu? I mean isn't Urdu for sweeper (cleaning toilets) is Mahtar?

My apologies for this explanation in advance.
I think that because making of bhang and dealing with leather was associated with lower caste (and non Muslims) and in Pakistan, the job of cleaning gutters and toilets is reserved for non-Muslims, we started assciateing words like Bhangis and Chamars to people who clean our filth.
BUT TLK if Chamaar is the worker who deal with chamRa (leather) and it was specific for non-Muslims, can we say that all Chamaars were mainly Christians, becuase Hindus might have kept themselves away from this job too.

were not they lower caste hindus who used to handle leather? Again my apoligies but after all Barhamin pujari sahab does need his sandals and jooties so someone needs to handle that leather.

mahtar means aalaa o urfa people aur yes unko ulloo banaane ke liye mahtar kahte the magar Bhangii Hindustani emN aam hai...maiN Khud bachpan men kahtaa thaa k bhangan/bhangi aayaa hai...it's a very common term.

Its part of our hypocrite society, where a person starts his day by reciting 'Sura e Muzammil' in office and in evening goes to his home full of looted / bribe money. On his home building, the most prominently written words would be 'Haza min fazl e Rabbi'
