Shaukat Siddiqui's khuda ki basti wala ya koi aur .mujhay aag ka darya aur aakhir shab kay humsafr (quratulain haider) duno bhot pasand hai
It was also televised on PTV but I haven't watched it. It is about the rural life of post-partition punjab. The main protagonists of this novel are two fugitives, who escapes from Montgomery jail.
Read a few by Nasim Hejazi
Liked Qafli-e-Hejaz and Akhri Chattan
Try Bano Qudsiya's Raja Gidh
reading "mammlei dil kai " by Razia Butt
Not a big novel reader other thna the occassional khawateen digest :D.
But the best Urdu book I have ever read has got to be Qudrutullah Shahab's "Shahab Naama". It's about post-partition Pakistan all the way til Zia.
It also has a chapter called, "Maa" which is sure to bring tears to anyone's eyes.
Shahab Naama is not really a "novel". Its more like a non-fiction, auto-biography.

hahaha I dont know if you read Pakeeza or not but I won sohnn halwa in poetry section once
suroo, you sound so much like a character from 'behnoN ki mehfil'. Someone who has lambay ghataaoN jaisay baal, jheel jaisi aankhain, naazuk pankhri jaisay haunt, naak aisa kay makhi bhi naa baithay waiting for her mangaiter from Englainde.
Waisay some of those afsaanay are very juicey.
^ yep pakeeza, shuaa, khawateen, even jasoosi.
sohn halwa..nicee..yummy. i dont read poetry section sometimes i read the joke sections or khana pakanay ki tarkeebay. :D
Since we have people here who read Urdu regularly, I assume. What do you guys think of Mumtaz Mufti?
Has anyone read Alkh Nagri?
i highly recommend Altaf fatimas Dastak na do
beautiful novel that takes the reader along on a journey from pre partition india to post partion early pakistan. (Not a lot of gory stuff) thats just the timeline where the story is based.
Basically a bitter sweet love story of a well off family and its very life like characters.
They tried making a tv play out of it as well and i am pretty sure made a hash of it , but the book is fab fab fab .
I wonder where the writer is now and what she is doing? hope she had a good life .
Beg borrow or steal but plz read this book
