Best thing about today's win

The best thing about today’s game was that our Captain taking all the pressure and winning it for us

Read it on twitter

Sarfraz Ahmed is the first Pakistan captain to record a fifty-plus score in a successful run chase in an ICC ODI event

Thank God. Had gotten so sick of Kuptaan Misbah scoring pointless 50s.

Finally we have a captain who can lead from front unless the tuk tuk Misbah who destryoed our ODI team

:afridi: :yk:

Re: Best thing about today’s win

Lol

Re: Best thing about today’s win

Bani-e-Pakistan: Muhammad Ali Jinnah

Bani-e-Tuk Tuk: Misbah-ul-Haq

second Waleed’s comments

Misbah was a calm and decent individual but I absolutely blame him as well for this tuk tuk curse in ODIs. No one is asking you to hit a boundary every ball but for God’s sake at least try to rotate the strike and keep the scoreboard ticking over

Yesterday Fakhar took the required run rate out of the equation. So despite losing wickets there was at least no additional pressure on Sarfraz and Amir (yes they knew that there was not much batting to come after them) of climbing runrate

Had it been Shehzad and Misbah yesterday, it would have been the same pathetic tuk tuk in the initial and middle overs with RRR climbing up from less than 5 at the start of the innings to above 7 in no time and we all know what happens then..

Re: Best thing about today’s win

Well, we will see how decent target of around 275 will be achieved when your middle/top order is collapsed, let alone 300 plus.
Such targets have already been achieved by misbah many a times as his ODI win ratio is 53.48%. Most of wins under his captaincy were sort of similar to what happened against Sri lanka.

Re: Best thing about today’s win

Most of those wins (infact in our entire ODI history) were courtesy of good bowling rather than batting.

I was listening to Atherton and Slater yesterday and out of the last twenty four 275+ run targets in ODIs, Pak have successfully chased the total only three times! That stat alone says it all

Re: Best thing about today’s win

why no courtesy to good bowling for this match as well then?
Why single out misbah?
But the point remains that its highly unlikely that we achieve a decent target when top order is collapsed.

Re: Best thing about today’s win

When under pressure, Pakistan team always collapse, especially players who got included as batsmen. In match against SL, pressure was not on any bowler (like Amir), but pressure was on batsmen. On the other hand, if Amir had got out then there were 2 others who could have come to stand, but if Sarfraz had gone out than all believe that game was over.

As for Amir, his performance was good, though normal, as he can give good batting performance occasionally, but team cannot rely on him as in his 23 ODI innings, this match was the third time he scored over 25 runs. on the other hand, on last 2 occasions (Pakistan lost on both those occasions), he was highest Pakistani scorer … once in 2009 when he scored 73 no (out of total 204) and second time he scored 58 runs against England (3rd ODI, Aug 2016) … where Sharjell also scored 58, Sarfraz 38 and M Nawaz 34, Yasir 26, Wahab 14. As for Pakistani batting line-up, other than Sharjeel and Sarfraz, all failed.

Anyhow, I was checking Amir’s performance and here is what happens in past:

3rd ODI, 2009 against NZ. NZ gave target 212 to win. What happened, Pakistan team collapsed and lost 9 wickets for 101. Then Amir and Ajmal (10th wicket partnership) produced 103 runs … in the end, Pakistan got all out at 204 and lost, 8 runs behind the target.

^ what is the point of this post?

Re: Best thing about today’s win

In this match Pakistan needed 237 to win against SL. Sarfraz came in when team was struggling at 110 for 4 and soon Pakistan reached 137 for 6 (all batsmen except Sarfraz was left), and tail end started, still 100 runs behind the target. One can imagine the pressure, especially on lone batsman (Sarfraz) playing, knowing that if he loses his wicket than game is over and Pakistan is out of tournament too. As Sarfraz was Captain, pressure on him must be higher too, as, if team loses, he would have to answer many question, and would be made responsible of loss.

Now … to see similar situation in July 2013. Pakistan needing 233 to win against WI (2nd ODI).

what happened? … Pakistan under Misbah collapsed for 195, losing the game. This is Pakistani score, that shows how important it is that in such situation, a regular and responsible batsman stays on to finish the game.

Bohut bara point hay, what you cannot see.

Maybe you are in PMLN distributing sweets after Supreme Court Panama result, without realising that 2 judges gave verdict in favour of NS (asking him politely to resign) while 3 judges formed JIT so that further dirt can be rubbed on Shareef family and they become complete naked in front of nation (nangay hou jayen quam kay samnay). … Most funny was PMLN could not get the point about JIT (what you are not getting here) and started celebration judgement of 3 judges asking for JIT, cursing 2 judges who gave verdict in their favour (to get rid of them, with little dirt that JIT would put on them). …

So, I know point ko samjhna mushkil hota hay, still.

Re: Best thing about today’s win

Its a good thread though I thought Waleed will say good thing about today’s win was that he opened the thread

I dont jump to conclusions quickly so wouldnt say how good Sarfraz is or no. We’ll realize in some time. But one thing for sure he is somewhat more daring than previous captains. He has a little reflection of MS Dhoni (as captain). All the last few captains had been very very defensive. If Sarfraz becomes one too then he’ll end up with few successes as well. I firmly believe fortune favors the brave.

The bigger challenge for Pakistan is:

  1. To find replacements of Younus, Misbah etc.
  2. Get rid of Shehzad, hafeez, Akmal(s) and in future, Malik. But who do we replace them with?
  3. Find a quality spinner for limited overs. Where are all the spinners gone? Shadab did good in WI but we’re yet to find.
  4. Find a good pair of openers. Fakhar is a great find but can he and Azhar be the permanent opening pair?

So give Sarfraz a good team and then check how is he doing. Right now its a little early.

Re: Best thing about today’s win

najam parchi sethi has been a disaster for Pakistan Cricket. I want to whip Shehryar Khan so hard for his india this india cricket that groveling all the time.

Bowling alone can’t win you matches especially if the pitch is not right. Pakistani or desi fielding is already atrocious so batting HAS TO be GOOD. I don’t know why Pakistanis accept this excuse that batting aewein chalti hai.

What purpose does sania mirza’s zanani serve in the pakistani team? He again was out at 11.

Re: Best thing about today’s win

Agree mostly but why Najam Sethi is disaster for Pakistan Cricket? Do you have some facts to back that up. The cricket is in decline for long and the humiliating losses have been happening since Geneal Tauqeer took over, although back than we had better players. Under Najam, finally we have a PSL which has already give 3-4 good players. I am not refuting you but like to objectively understand why Sethi is a disaster vs. Other clowns running PCB before including the stupid general.

Re: Best thing about today’s win

Misbah as a batsman has shown how explosive he can be. He is very hard hitter of cricket ball. His max innings are at no 5 . He comes to play mostly when the batters above him have already done tuk tuk and got out wat he can do in such situation. It is the job of selectors to give him players who can play fast.
It is the mistake of selectors to keep selecting shahzad. akmal bros. Malik. Even azhar is not odi material now is trying to adopt.
Wen a captain see mostly 30 for 3 wat he can do.

Re: Best thing about today’s win

^ just because people above you were doing tuk tuk doesn’t mean you continue doing that yourself. Misbah was a poor rotator of the strike, period; did not know how to milk ones and twos and that is the point here. With him it was either Tuk Tuk or big hits.

Re: Best thing about today’s win

The Imran supporters cannot accept that there is a captain who is clearly better than him. carry on.

hats off to misbah the best captain Pak has had and took the team from the depths of disaster to number one, while some other loser ran away half way through a series. The man has guts and character.

As for who started tuk tuk look at the final of world cup 92 who was tuk tuking there. Yet we won. That was the start of tuk tuk.
