Best places to visit in your state/city

Re: Best places to visit in your state/city

Lake Anna is in Spotsylvania, VA, a 2-2 1/2 hrs drive from Northern VA. This lake is surrounded by a park and has a mini artificial beach. The lake view is spectacular btw!

About lauray caverns, will it worth a visit with an infant, a toddler, and a preschooler???:konfused:

Re: Best places to visit in your state/city

No, I wouldn’t take young kids to luray. The tour is about an hour long and the tour guide explains the caverns in detail. Last time we went I stayed outside with the 7 kids while the other adults took the tour. Oh, there’s also a small car museum there.

Really? I haven't seen em in houston. El Paso [shudder]....there is a reason its pushed to the far corner of Texas.

Re: Best places to visit in your state/city

I hope you’re not talking about Shanandoah Vally, because it’s stunning and a must see. The views are just spectacular! Also, Haper’s Ferry is another very beautiful place to visit.
Femme - Luray Caverns are a must see :k: They’re only about 10 from Shanandoah National Park. Make sure you visit it as well. Also make sure you go there on a completely clear day. If you on a cloudy day, you’ll miss the beautiful secenry since it’s at a high altitude.

Re: Best places to visit in your state/city

Oh God you brought back some not so pleasant memories. First time we went to shanendoah we turned back midway and stopped at this apple picking place where I cracked one of my finger nails right from the middle while attempting to grab an apple that was hanging a little high. It bled too. Second time we went we made it all the way. I was sitting at the end of the back row and dying to get out cos i was somewhat on the edge, so I got off backwards, got dizzy and fell flat on the ground. My supid siblings laughed at me but bro-in-law and mum and dad rushed to my rescue. I hurt my foot the most which got all bruised and swollen and stayed that way for a few days. Additionally we forgot more than half our food at home. Yeah quite a picnic! Third disaster is from Harper's Ferry where we went tubing. I almost drowned, got my feet cut real bad from the rocks, got saved by a man who stunk of beer but hey beggars can;t be choosers and i didn;t really even have any other option to start with but to drown. So I came out with nothing in my feet, my flipflops were tied to the tube which merrily flowed away with the current. So I had to walk like a quarter of a mile with my bare, injured and bleeding feet till I got to the rest of the gang :(

I was planning to make the luray trip this saturday but plumber sahab will be fixing one of the bathrooms which means it won't be happening :(

Re: Best places to visit in your state/city

I'm curious...how did you manage to get out of the tube?

Re: Best places to visit in your state/city

Well there were basically two clear areas where one could get off. The guy had said that we had to get off at the second one otherwise there was a waterfall after that which we probably didn’t wanna get to. So he said by the time u cross the first one make sure u r to the left of the river so its easy to get off. I ofcourse wasn;t paying attention I suppose so when I saw the first clear area I thought oh shoot I was supposed to get off here so I started panicking and trying to get to the land. I didn’t make it and this person shouts if you know how to swim just jump off and wade through the water. Till that point I was under the assumption that I still knew how to swim from my school years. My skills were tested shortly and not only could I not swim but also lost my balance and due to the bottom of the river being really slippery I could not get on my feet which prompted my saviour to jump in to the rescue :grumpy:
