Best places to visit in your state/city

Okay, in Virginia I would say:

  • Lake Anna
  • National Zoo
  • National Museum of Natural History (looking fwd to pay the visit this summer)
  • National Aquarium (although its in Baltimore, but I consider it a virginian attraction as it is just an hour drive from where i live :D)

So what are the places, around where you live, that you have visited and liked or you would like to visit???

PS: If you live in/or have visited VA and would like to add-on to my list, just add-on…
PS2: Shenendoah River is a nightmare, don’t go there!
PS3: Something tells me summer is coming, Yaaaaaaaaaaaaaay

harriman state park - it's beaut in the summer
palisades interstate pkwy - very scenic, good for hiking fun and top of the world views
bronx zoo
the walk across the brooklyn bridge
SoHo
ethnic neighbourhoods in the city
sheepshead bay area in the summer

as for times square, lady liberty, etc etc.. ghar ki murgi daal baraabar...

Re: Best places to visit in your state/city

Hey namkeen: you forgot to mention central park, jones beach, rosevelt field mall, brooklyn botanic garden, port washington, south sea port, chelsea piers.

Re: Best places to visit in your state/city

in Virginia, you cannot miss out on Colonial Williamsburg, Jamestown and Yorktown. it's the birthplace of America, a lovely quaint place to visit... takes you right back to the 17th century. in yorktown i think they act out battleground scenes, with ppl dressing up in colonial army uniforms and the cannons going off and stuff. kewl stuff.

Re: Best places to visit in your state/city

ajnabi, those are the usual tourist spots which i classified under ghar ki murgi daal baraabar :p

when i first visited wading river 4 yrs ago not many ppl knew abt this beach, it was like ur own private beach, u know? then the secret got out, and now u have many more visitors, but it's still nothing like the mad crowds at jones beach on a hot summer's day.

Re: Best places to visit in your state/city

Luray is excellent. If you have kids with you make sure you take them through the garden maze as well.

Re: Best places to visit in your state/city

do pakis wear cowboy hats in dallas?

Re: Best places to visit in your state/city

No one wears cowboy hats in Dallas...or Houston for that matter...but they drive plenty of trucks.

Re: Best places to visit in your state/city

Thanks! Someone told me horror stories about the maze though :( I was telling him how I planned to go, this was a few months ago, and he was like yes u must go and do visit the maze. Its very complicated and earlier the people had no help to get out of it so many got lost and even died in it, there are lots of ghost stories around but I won;t tell you otherwise you will freak out. I didn't even go after that :( The person doesn;t really lie so I took his word for it.

Re: Best places to visit in your state/city

oh come on dallas sure, but houston has ppl in those hats, more so in san antonio, el paso, and laredo :D

Re: Best places to visit in your state/city

what do u mean u did not find anything to see/visit in Michigan? sheesh

amber he said No one not No pakistani :)

Re: Best places to visit in your state/city

I'm afraid I'm going to see a notarized transcript of that conversation. :)

The maze is difficult and you will get lost and backtrack quite a bit, but it's not dangerous at all. There's a clearly marked safety door in the middle and you can always reverse your steps back to the beginning if you get too lost.

We had 7 kids with us and they had a great time figuring it out.

Re: Best places to visit in your state/city

haha true so true. i have never been to the statue of liberty..once planned to ..almost went there ..then decided bowling sounded much better. there's a bunch of cute stores in times square that tourists might like though...the M&M's store, the Bubba Shrimp (Forrest Gump Themed restaurant) etc
i like walking around union square in the summers and buying random stuff from the stalls that crop up there. love the hot apple cider they make in the farmers market in the fall. and ofcourse the Metropolitan museum of art. I used to live in sheepshead bay and even though its beautiful and breezy in the summers it sometimes stank of fish by the pier. Brighton Beach is great for walking on the boardwalk or enjoying fine food by the beach.
