To me a good commentator is the one who makes the game entertaining to watch or enhaces viewer’s knowledge. Most of the Pakistani commentators should work for radio.
Most of them think we are blind. Heck, they start reading whatever is on the screen..be it scorecard, bowling speed, bowling figures..Well, thank you Mr. expert.
^ The only thing I remember about Gavaskar was that in '92 WC he predicted Pakistan will win the cup, even when it looked doubtful that we’ll qualify for the semis. Good guy! :k:
yes..I remember those. But before going into Cricket Administration, Gavaskar was a frequent commentator on ESPN. It was treat to hear him specially when he was there with Boycott.
I remember gavaskar from the days of sharjah when Pakistan and India use to play alot there. Definitely a better commentator of the game and its a shame we did't see him much in the commentary box . I also remember his comment which he actually made at the end of WC 92 pool matches, when PK defeated NZ and Aussie defeated Windies. Aussie victory allowed Pakistan to enter the semi's as the 4th and final team. At that time he said that PK are peaking at the right time and is the team likely to win the cup. That made him really popular among Pakistani public.
However I think alot of people resepected him already because of his commentary.
It was right before and than during the Superseries that the guy lost respect of alot of his fans including me.
Well not Pakistanis though but still some i thought needed to be mention here
Robin Jackman (sometimes biased towards SAF)
Barry Richards (didn't hear for a while ... is he alive ?)
Mark Nicholas (the biggest sucker of Aussie ba***)
Arun Lal (The indian Version of Amir Sohail ???)
Shivaramakrishnan (makes no secret of being Biased)
I would like to see Bob Willis with Sidhu in the comms Box ;)
Rameez Raja now sounds more like Navjot Sidhu....coaching thier respective teams sitting in the commentry box. David Lloyd is funny.....the best ones are: Ravi Shastri, Sunil Gavaskar, Tony Greg, Bill Lawry, Richie Benaud.....cant think of more.
*I wish Manjrekar was Pakistani. He is a very insightful and unbiased commentator (even though his love for Tendulkar sometimes becomes quite obvious, but that's understandable). India already have a great commentator in Ravi Shastri. We, on the other hand, have Waqar Younis and Rameez Raja. I am too tired to even say anything anymore.
dont worry, shastri is contracted to espn and tht clashes with any interests Ten sports might have in bringing him in, in the indo-pak series.
in other words, shastri wont be commentating for ten sports which hold rights for indo-pak series.
I like Yashpal Sharma's insightful commentary in HINDI and his ability to look beyond the obvious :
Sample this :
India had won the toss and decided to field against Australia:
*Australia ki koshish rahegi ki jyaada se jyaada run banaye aur Bhartiyay gendbaaj koshish karenge ki Australia kum-se-kum run par out ho. *
