Koyal I understand that unless you get members to be active, you won't have anything at all ā including poetry. But if you want curfew here, than you can say I am doing all wrong. Ultimately, my opinin is, that once you have everyone thrilled and excited and active, you will automatically start getting more and more poetry with much better standards. I think we saw enough of silence here and if you had been visiting poetry regularly, which I am sure you did not, then you will know it is slightly better a place today than what it used to be sometime ago.
Last but not least, I want that people who come here, just do not post and vanish, I want them to create an interactive community that becomes a part of their daily life. I want that the time they spend here, earns them back something they could be excited about after a long day of work. It's my vision about this forum, I may be wrong, but that's what I am for :~)

I have an advice for those who will be participating, prepare at least three entries in case your favourite ghazal is posted by someone else before you. So it's good to be ready for any eventuality. Isn't it? :) And please do participate in this competition.

May I chime if you do not mind on behalf of Amal?
you can give a short introduction of the poet but do not include images and pretty coloring or fonts because it will take the focus out from the main content- that is Ghazal - so a background of the ghazal will be a PLUS... keep in mind that it will be counted as extra point to be considered but Ghazal itself should speak for itself.
I am ready to read your selection and hope it will come out one of the good ones as you always post :)

You can glamourize your ghazal however you want but not the presentation or introduction, atleast I would want a focus on the ghazal.
background or context of the ghazal means.. let me give you an example...
you know Sahir Ludhianvi's poem:
"Challo aik baar phir say Ajnabi bun ja'aiN hum dono"
it has a background: Apparently it emerges out of the poet's very personal experience, this story of unrequited love. Sahir Ludhianvi was in love with a woman called Sudha... she reciprocated his love, but wasn't able to face the pressure from her parents, she got married to someone else. Years later, Sahir met her at some event, and the sight of her had a profound effect on him... his friend B.R. Chopra took him home.. the next day when he went to Sahir's house, he found him still sleeping, and next to the bed was this poem that he had penned. The cinematic instinct was awakened in B R Chopra, and he spun a story around the situation in the poem... thus movie Gumrah was made.
Now, I understand finding such a background is very difficult and sometimes, impossible but as I said, if you can, it will be an add-on and I truely believe that such a practice is very creative and unique for this Forum...
And of course, that is only my point of view... people can disagree :)

ab yeh to aap ko he maloom hai na iss ghazal ka background ye hai mujhe to aap se he pata chala :(
n if kisi ghazal ka koi background na ho about the reason or history of that ghaazal k shayar ne kion likhi n kis k liye likhii ~

BL, that was just a suggestion. As I said, it is not easy to get such a background... I was suggesting it to add more flavour to the idea... it will give people a good knowledge and an oppertunity for you to do some more research... isn't it good :p
but do not stress yourself for that.. again, it was just a suggestion, not a requirement.
