A breast pump! It's a life saver. :D

Re: Best/most useful gift for a new mother..

a bfeeding pillow for one of em.. the triangular kind.. u can not find that in pak...

hmm... a nice baby bag that doesnt look like one... they still have the cartoon like baby bags in pak.. or ones with funny colors.. maybe the aunt will like a decent mature lookin nappy bag that looks like em messenger bags in fashion these days.

Re: Best/most useful gift for a new mother..

gift certificates to spa or massage parlor....
...or depending on your budget, hire them a maid/helper for couple of days after a birth....

Re: Best/most useful gift for a new mother..

Do parents always like something useful? honestly, the first gift I think of is clothing....because I like clothes...and I know nothing about toys and other stuff... other htan that, I'd give gift card and parents can decide what they want.

Re: Best/most useful gift for a new mother..

maybe a nice body butter, good creams are pretty expensive in Pakistan I suppose.

Re: Best/most useful gift for a new mother..

the thing with clothing is, your body changes so much post-pregnancy, i know i was initially wearing 2 sizes larger and i wouldn't have wanted people to buy me nice clothes in that size. it was depressing.

i love the idea of the nice diaper bag!

swaddleme's might also prove to be very helpful or how about a baby monitor that runs on batteries since bijli is such an issue in pakistan?

Re: Best/most useful gift for a new mother..

OMG you are such a life saver, i bought a regular baby monitor for my use in pak, it never crossed my mind that i should get a battery operated. thanxs

Re: Best/most useful gift for a new mother..

Loose tops that make nursing easy (with buttons and stretch for easy access).

Re: Best/most useful gift for a new mother..

An offer to babysit for a few hours while the mother catches up on sleep!

Re: Best/most useful gift for a new mother..

a year's supply of pampers/diapers/nappies.

Re: Best/most useful gift for a new mother..

A really nice diaper bag

Wipey warmer? Do people really use them?

I think people go through bottles really fast so maybe that's a good idea?

Post pregnancy spa day?

Re: Best/most useful gift for a new mother..

Hi Aunt,
I think you must give a baby cot.It will be nice for he/she.

Re: Best/most useful gift for a new mother..

set your budget n make a gift basket for everything that they can use but not east to find in Pakistan..for example

Baby bottles (dr. Brown or Tommee tippee)
Body suits for 0-6 months
First aid kit including thermometer, nail clipper etc
Small baby towel
Receiving blankets
Swaddle sacks?
And whatever else you like to include!!

Fr mother include,
Diaper bag
Lanolin for early bf days
Bf pads

Re: Best/most useful gift for a new mother..

^ you could even add things like scent free, dye free ivory or tide, and oxy clean.

Re: Best/most useful gift for a new mother..

Thanks for allll the suggestions :)

Esp like the baby monitor and gift basket ideas..

No way would I be able to babysit, I have very little experience with kids so that would prob cause more harm than good lol

Re: Best/most useful gift for a new mother..

Re: Best/most useful gift for a new mother..

O.O

Re: Best/most useful gift for a new mother..

Really? There are audio and video monitors. The monitors come in pairs. One is kept up by the baby, the other is kept with you. The traditional audio ones pick up sound from the baby’s room so you know if s/he needs you. The video ones also include an image, and you can actually see the child, if you set the camera right. These also have “nightvision” and you can see your child in the dark.

Re: Best/most useful gift for a new mother..

^ yup. we have the night vision one and it worked really well, esp. in the pre-crib days when he was sleeping in our bed and we needed to make sure he didn't roll out of it (despite the cushions we placed on either side). i was also able to get his bottles ready because i could see/hear him as soon as he started stirring. we love our monitor! its the single most useful baby thing we spent money on. even now i take it with me to mum's since he sleeps upstairs there and if he's napping, we can keep an eye on him while sitting downstairs.
