Guys can be very good friends. I am closer to my male friends from college than I am with the female ones. And no, there's no "feelings" involved. ¬¬
That said, they don't fulfil the "best friend" criteria for me. I want to be able to have sleepovers with my best friend, to be able to hang out with her alone, to be able to discuss every little girly issue with her, to be able to hug her lol ... these are the things I don't see myself doing with my male friends so yeah they're really good, genuinely awesome friends, but not best friends in my book.

Personally, it's not acceptable to me if my spouse has a female best friend and it doesn't have anything to do with me being desi. My first reaction would be, umm then what am I here for if you already have someone you emotionally bond with? I want to be his best friend and I'd feel privileged to be his first go-to person when he needs someone.

If a woman is attractive, and a guy is single, he's usually trying to hook up with her first. Not become her friend. No one said anything about "falling for every girl". They would be trying to have sex.

I am really good friends with couple of female friends. Nevertheless, we have respectful distance with each other. We meet up for coffee, lunch or dinner. And that is it.
