woww it seems a lot more controversial than I thought it will be... leave it to Newyorkers to make things complicated :-D
cherryontop... we went to that gyro place but it was soo unsanitary that we walked away from it!!!and you are right we loved the food in TO.... everything tasted so much better!!
Another recommendation OMAR'S KITCHEN - One of the best places for good and quick meditarranion food esp showarma is awesome. Its at 55th st right by 3rd ave. The only thing is that I've just done lunch here, not sure if its open for dinner but guess it should be. The queue at lunch time goes from inside to the road. O ya its next to the masjid as well, islamic centre of mid-manhattan. Um, may be not the fanciest place to sit though but not too bad either. :)
I went to Haandi a few weeks ago, I wasn't that hungry so I just had some kababs...can't say I was really impressed. My friend ahd biryani though and she loved it.

Chinese Mirch on 28th (or 29th) and 3rd is pretty good but I've heard tangra masala is much better.
**Adrienne's Pizza Bar- **Haven't been there but everyone i speak to that has been there gives rave reviews.
chinese mirch is pretty good...
i work close to adriennes pizza bar and went there for lunch last week..ate there before as well, and there pizza is AMAZING...if ur ever around wall st, u must go there to eat =)
Then why even go out to eat then? shouldn't that person's word be enough? it's their sin if they lie....not yours.
unfortunatly their word isnt enough and i feel no embarrassement in asking for certifcations and authentic proof of their meat being halal.
it is said that if someone verbally says its halal, and they lied, then they cannot be blaimed, rather its your fault for not fully inquiring, asking about halal certificaition and what not.
we try so hard to eat zabihah and then if someone lets us down, its pretty painful.
Sometimes some people dont differentiate between zabihah halal and halal....for some hala is just something permissible in Islam nad it doesnot necessarily have to be zabihah halal....
My sister who lives in NY told me sth like this...she went to a street cart which sold this halal chicken and beef and turkey sandwiches and shwaramas and stuff. He told her that chicken is zabihah halal and beef is halal...you get the point...??
So you might wanna inquire if they are zabiha halal or not...that is the one slaughtered acc to the Islamic ways.
YEA I DONT get that at all..people have just come up with that to make themselves feel better..zabihah is a newly contructed word, but since beginning of time, we have been hearing of halal and halal only , and now people come up with saying oh there is a difference btw halal and zabihah halal..what in Gods name is different.
it says numerous times in quran that, with out the taqbir and correct way of slaughtering the meat isnt HALAL on you, never said it isnt zabihah halal on you.
i have no idea why people make this complications
just so when they eat non halal, they dont feel bad....

Ok thought I'd update, I went to haandi twice after it and I have to say...I loved it. Goood stuff, esp their weekend buffet.

Really? Where is it said? because i have always heard the opposite....if someone says its halal and htey lie, they are blamed....doesn't make sense to me that ure blamed for something beyond your control.
