Best Food in New York/New Jersey/Connecticut

I have read a few reviews online of Buddakan, but also heard it is super expensive? Hmm may be worth trying as you say the food is good. Any personal reccomendations?

^yeah max brenner is definitly a place you should check out. pretty good food and the price range is decent. the fondues are about $12 and their waffles and crepes are around $13-14ish. i love their munchies waffles and the banana hazelnut cream crepe.

banana hazelnut crepe

Another place you guys should check out is Bakhter in Fresh Meadows Queens. Their food is SO good and they serve very generous portions. the best thing about them? Quality of food and the price. Most of their dishes start at $7.50. I usually get their brown rice with one skewer of grilled chicken tikka and one beef Kuftah (sooo good). The kuftah is not like our kofta (round meatball) its like a kebab. Definity check it out if you’re around queens and need to find cheap eats!

Afro - it is pricey and portions are super small - I would never take my hubby there because he would need another dinner.

Everything that I tried was delicious. This what we had.

Beef Lettuce Cups
Chilli Rock Shrimp
Jade Shrmip Dumplings
Chilli Crab and Crispy Noodles (my fav)
Asian Green Stir Fry
Steamed Red Snapper

Re: Best Food in New York/New Jersey/Connecticut

Yesterday I went to KABAB KING recently opened in Hicksville. Actually its the old ALI BABA now turned into Kabab King. But our excitement got turned down when we saw that there is no change wutsoever except the name of restaurant. Its no way near the original KABAB KING of jackson heights, though the ownership is same. The menu still has all the AFghan food, except that there is a new page in the end mentioning very few desi dishes. But the quality of food is not that good either.
May be they are bringing the change slowly but for now, its useless to go there unless you really like afghan food.

Re: Best Food in New York/New Jersey/Connecticut

I hate kabab king food, its all about making money nothing about quality. For the good food try Deira at Jackson... !

Great thread
Moved to New york city year ago
Still trying to find good desi places to eat -
on upper west side ...alachai masala is good 9.00 lunch special dinner over priced.
If your in Manhattan and don't mind paying 15 - 17 per entree than check out east village
e. 6th street its lined with indian restaurants my fav being brick lane.
For lack of better indian food I decided to invest in some shan masala and make it myself and I must say its much better than the indian restaurants around me.

Re: Best Food in New York/New Jersey/Connecticut

^those indian restaurants in east village are crap. the only way i would go in there would be if i had to puke. the only reason they are popular is cuz most of them are BYOB.

i just went to Shake Shack on the UWS. since u live nearby u should try it. they have one location on 77th and columbus. shackburger, cheese fries, and creamsickle float… burger heaven
And if you ever go there try out Magnolias or buttercup bakery for cupcakes,

Seriously dude, venture out side of Manhattan and go into the outer boroughs (brooklyn and queens).... manhattan desi food is overpriced and no good...there's a big world outside the upper west side.

Oh but one good place i must admit is Kati Roll in the lower east side (99 macdougal street)

There is a lots of famous hotels for his food.

Hi friends
The best food and a great place near TImes Sqaure if your in the mood for Thai!We would have walked right past this restaurant if our conseirge had not recommended the food there. We sent $120 for appetizer, 2 entree’s,dessert, and a bottle of wine!

Re: Best Food in New York/New Jersey/Connecticut

When I was doing my internship in NYC, I would always end up at Haandi. My review might be outdated but wanted to put it out there:
**
Haand
113 Lexington Ave
New York, NY 10016-8971**

The restaurant is in NYC's Curry Lane AKA Lexington Avenue. It used to be open 24 hours and the food was freshly made because of all the Paki taxi/car service drivers. I think the place is Pakistani Punajbi because a good number of Sikhs would stop by as well. The seating is alright, the service was pretty good, and the food depended on what you would order (Chicken kabobs were great).

I usually ended up there pretty late (1 AMish) becuase of late nights at work, so sometimes it would be jam packed with people (taxi drivers, late night clubbers, and other Pakis getting off of work) so I would get the food to go. Oh the Kashmiri chai was great, I would get one cup while eating and take one to go.

Again this review is a bit outdated as I have not been back there in a while but if you're in the neighborhood you should definitely pop in there.

If you are in a mood for some cheap food, this guy is good, he is at the corner of 46th and the 6th, near the times Square...

Food is cheap, nothing is above 7$ and is so plenty that 2 people can enioy it in one order easliy.

He is on a cart called "Aamir Halal Food Cart". There is a lot of seating place just across the street besides the memorial.

I tried his lamb with rice. There were atleast 12-15 boti's(pieces) of spicy lamb with pulao type rice. There were white and green sauce(poodinay ki chutney) and mixed acchaar besides it. There was salad including tomato, potatoes, onions and cabbage and there was a boiled egg in one plate and it was for 5.50$ only.

It's halal and highly recommended.

Re: Best Food in New York/New Jersey/Connecticut

^ I think Kati is greasy. Try Roomali instead - it’s 28th/Lex and they say they serve halal

Roomali

Re: Best Food in New York/New Jersey/Connecticut

^ Ooo i was there a few days ago. I liked it, but I prefer Kati roll.... it seemed like it was all the same pieces of chicken. (bihari roll vs malai chicken tikka vs bbq chicken etc)

Re: Best Food in New York/New Jersey/Connecticut

I went to Shahnawaz Palace at Edison today. The food was wonderful. one of the best desi food I have eaten so far in US>

Re: Best Food in New York/New Jersey/Connecticut

Is Kabab King in Jackson Heights open 24/7? Is it always a buffett or what?

How safe is Jackson Heights after 9:00pm?
