Re: best baby bottles
I'm finding the tommee tippee ones best to use in combination with breastfeeding. I tried the Avent Anti Colic ones as well but found they leaked. Also, the Philips steam sterilizer is great to use..very quick and works with the other brand of bottles too!
Re: best baby bottles
Nono u can use it.... Put his water in Ny container or bottle for the night.... Plug it n... When the time comes, simply pour e water into the needed bottle and off u goI hope u got the powder dispenser for his milk.... Simply measure before sleeping...when he gets up, ure wster and milk is already measured...just gotta put them together and mix....My bottle warmer was THE most used baby item. Lved it!
ooh, smart! dunno why i didn't think of that. d'oh.
i just got the powder dispenser a week ago- so convenient!
starry_eyes, you can use the philips steriliser with other brands? i had heard it was only for avent bottles so i didn't get it. right now, we just wash the bottles in hot water and dishwashing detergent. its faster than the washing machine.
bottle-wise, i got my free nestle diaper bag and it came with a Gerber Nuk bottle with the orthodontic nipple. he seems to love that one too and is burping easier after drinking from it, so we're using that now, and for some feeds we have the Ventaires if the Nuk's aren't washed, and then we have the Drop in's too for backup and when we go out, and i still want to try dr. brown's but haven't had the time to get to babies r' us just yet.
admittedly, its getting a bit ridiculous at this point, but some bottles were making him burp so hard and it sounds so painful, and often he ends up scaring himself lol
Re: best baby bottles
I think I am the only one who didn't have the need to warm the water before mixing formula. I get gallon bottles of spring water which sits outside. So the water is room temp. All I do is pour water in the bottle, mix formula. I actually ended up returning the bottle warmer. It wasn't of any use at all. Also, to wash the bottles I simply use the same dish washing detergent we use. I don't have a dishwasher so I have to wash it each time. I never sterilize the bottle by putting it in hot water. I felt that I had to rinse it anyway after I sterilized them.
And as far as bottles are, I used the only two sets I had (avent and dr. brown), one of which was actually a gift. My son does perfectly fine with drinking from those two sets. That's the only two types of bottles he knows. I personally think we take more stress on what bottles we should use then the kids themselves. When they are this small, they don't have a preference. They get used to whatever is given to them.
burping, spitting out milk, gases (unless your baby is colic or has MAJOR gases issue) are all part of their growing up process. Their digestive system isn't fully developed. When they drink milk, they take air with it which causes them to spit out the milk or burp. The whole deal will get better with time. They get hang of things, they'll figure out themselves at what pace they have to drink. Eventually its going to get better. My son used to vomit the whole milk out at 2 months. He does very very good now. Very rare does he spit out now. Don't stress. Just think of it all as a process every kid goes through. He'll burp, huge burp .. then they'll be time you won't have to do anything, he'll burp on his own. Your son SCG is too small right now so yeah you probably have more to do to make him burp. No matter what bottle you give him, he'll burp.
we boil the water and leave it out too, but the thing is, it gets quite cold overnight with the AC running and all that, so it would be nice to give him a warmed up bottle. plus i plan to pre-mix his feeds ahead of time and keep in the fridge, so as soon he's ready we can just warm up his bottle and away we go, and there aren't tons of bubbles in the bottle from shaking it to mix just before feeding.
as for the burping, agreed- its part of the growing up process, but he gets fussy and gassy and burps get stuck and i just want to ease his discomfort any way i can, hence the bottle-testing :)

I used to put the water in a hot water thermos. Very convenient.
Re: best baby bottles
Ive been feeding baby with the Medela bottle set and its time to get new bottles. Which do you recommend--Dr Brown's, Playtex etc etc? Went to Babies r us twice for bottle shopping and came back confused Baby is a very gassy one.
Did you try the Dr Brown's yet SGC??
Ive got their bottle warmer and its great.
Re: best baby bottles
^ I did try Dr. Brown's, but the kidlet was gulping milk down too fast even with their slow flow nipples. Try them, though, I know several people, including Khawa, swear by their effectiveness in cutting back gas. My kid loves the Playtex Ventaires so that's what we're using. He didn't take to Tommee Tippee or Born Free at all, and I didn't like the quality of the Avent bottles.
I'd say try the Playtex Ventaires and Dr. Brown's and see which ones he prefers. He'll let you know after a couple of feeds!
I bought the Gerber universal bottle warmer and it just didn't work for me, so now I use hot water in a thermos and mix it with regular temp bottled water, or I premix hot water to the right temp and fill the thermos. Its much quicker for me to make his bottles this way.
