best baby bottles

Re: best baby bottles

By the way, I didn’t get a sterilizer and never felt I needed one.

I simply washed all items and then put them in a bowl and poured boiling water over them.

You can also get little sterilizing pouches, that are good for travel too. You put the parts in there and stick in the microwave with a couple tablespoons of water. http://www.amazon.com/Munchkin-Steam-Guard-Microwave-Sterilizer/dp/B002LTT65I

Re: best baby bottles

^ those steamer bags are great for travel! thanks for that link.
i think i want to get a steam sterilizer because its a gadget and there are so many fun baby gadgets to buy :p
yesterday, i bought dr. brown's formula mixing pitcher, and the gerber nuk bottle warmer, in addition to the tommee tippee and born free bottles, and a couple more things. thank goodness we got a gift card from babies r' us! i can already tell i'll be spending too much time buying accessories for the stroller, the car, the nursery, feeding etc. from there. i was telling hubby he should be grateful the bean didn't turn out to be a girl otherwise the wardrobe expenditure would have been through the roof haha
p.s: for those of you with little girls in the GTA, have you seen Joe Fresh Baby? OMG.

thanks, lady! we named him Gabriel.

Re: best baby bottles

SCG they Joe Fresh has cute nutical inpspired things for baby boys too....so cute and very summery.

Re: best baby bottles

These steaming bags were such a great thing when I went to Pakistan with my 6 mth old.I made the husband mail these to me later on,I had forgotten to take them with me…
Btw I used the Dr.Brown’s ones …

Re: best baby bottles

honestly speaking some babies r v colicky like mine n theses bottles or changing formula doesnt help u can give colic drops or gripe water n the gas issue gradually decreases when baby turns 3 months :)

Re: best baby bottles

dr. browns all the way! :k: yes, it’s tougher to clean with the extra parts in there…but if it helps the baby n reduces colic, whats an extra 30 seconds for cleaning the additional pieces

Re: best baby bottles

This happened with my son too.... It was a menace cuz he wpuld be chugging and the milk wouldnt be going through cuz it has collapsed.... Someoen said loosen the screw a bit... So i did... But then that led to air bubbles forming and him Sucking in air...Dr.brown stopped all this nuicance .... Vented vottles all the way!

Re: best baby bottles

^ so even when he gulped, he was ok with the gas/burping with dr. browns?

Re: best baby bottles

He shouldnt be gulping....The flow is too fast if he is making major gulping sounds.... I noticed when i started with avent bottles... Even their 0 level teat had a very fast flow... Midget used to gulp very loudly and his milk would run down his chin.... With dr.brown...i started off with level 1 and it went great.... The flow was spot on age wise for all their teats. The need to burp was reduced to just one burp... Which was a major change from the necessary 3 or 4 with other bottles (i tried avent though for only a bit cuz he didnt like the wide nipple feel.... Chicco, pigeon and tommee tippee. ) Dr.brown was the only vented bottle that worked for him.... If bfeeding doesnt work out for genie... Im gonna start her off with dr.browns regardless of her having gas colic burping etc problems, or not.

Re: best baby bottles

^ ahh, i see. yes, he gulps loudly and fast with all of the ones we’ve tried so far- playtex drop in’s, tommee tippee, and born free. i have noticed that nipples that have these three or four diagonal lines inside are the ones that he drinks from slower than the ones without those markings. like these- [HugeDomains.com 3 Fast FlowWide Neck BornFree Nipples.jpg](HugeDomains.com 3 Fast FlowWide Neck BornFree Nipples.jpg)
i have two of those from playtex, and the born free one has these markings too.

we tried the born free bottle tonight. the nipple is marked level 1 on the bottle but when you tip it upside down, the milk drops from it quite rapidly. this has me confused because it says the milk will only flow when the baby sucks… so how come turning the bottle upside down makes the milk just drip out so fast? i feel really sleepy and dense right now, so forgive me if this has a very obvious answer.

anyway, he drank from it at a good pace without gulping too much - but also i am getting better at getting him his food before he goes into his crazy screaming from hunger stage. he did one big burp and one small one shortly after and he was done. this pleased me to no end because usually it can take up to two hours for all his burps to be done and its usually 4 burps on average. this is not a fun activity at 2 am in the morning.

i will get the dr. brown’s bottle sometime this week and try that out too. my bff also highly, highly recommends them.

i also have to feed him myself with the tommee tippee one- hubby did the trial feed with that bottle and i wasn’t able to monitor his burping afterwards. what hubby did mention was the nipple kept collapsing in his mouth but i was reading online that it usually happens when baby is sucking too strongly. they were recommending going up a nipple size but there’s no way- he’s only 3 weeks old masha’Allah- going up a size would for sure mean he’d gag.

Re: best baby bottles

SCG i got this from tomee tippees website…try it and see if irt makes a difference.

Why is the nipple collapsing when my baby is feeding? The closer to nature nipples are very sensitive as it is made of specially designed silicone material which can sometimes stick together when not used, this is perfectly natural. To ensure the slit at the tip of the tent like valve can open before use, flush through with water and gently manipulate the valve between finger and thumb until you see the slit re open. This allows the air to flow into the bottle and prevents the teat collapsing

The website also has a users manual…the english is on the 2nd page http://www.tommeetippee.us/faq_bottles_teats.html

Re: best baby bottles

^ thanks!

Re: best baby bottles

SGC: We had to shake pretty hard to get drops out of the level 1 born free nipple. I'm surprised it's coming out that quickly.

I do remember nipples collapsing occasionally, but it wasn't causing a problem because it didn't happen regularly.

Re: best baby bottles

SGC …how do you make him burp..??..I understand from your posts that he takes a while before he burps.
Maybe you are already doing it right, but I had the same issue with my daughter.I used to hold her against my shoulder and chest with her head resting on my shoulder and pat her back for quite a while before she burped.
Then I discovered that if I hold her in my lap in a sitting position with one of my hand holding her chest and the other patting her back, she burped way faster.

Something like this…

Re: best baby bottles

^Same.

(And as I mentioned before, desi elders are HORRIFIED at the sight of this. I've been told off many times.)

Re: best baby bottles

^^Yeah it seems as if the baby will get strangulated or something but it actually works really well.I later on recalled that all the nurses used t do the same during our hospital stay.

Re: best baby bottles

Yeah, I learned it from the nurses.

I think it's also that they are sitting up like that, which they insist is not good for their spine. But I never had issues, mashAllah se, and she would burp very easily (as would my cousin's daughter, when I did it -- but I got lectured about innovation and how things were done better "purane zamana" and something about doctors and "fazool batein". :D )

Re: best baby bottles

..

Re: best baby bottles

^ LOL I got that too.

My son would burp right away when I did this and was told that bachy ke spine may choot lagy gi.

Re: best baby bottles

^ omg, i just had that same conversation with dad again! lol
i burp him like this, yes. i learnt from watching my bff with her preemie son.

sahar, the born free's always lead to a ton of dribbling milk down his chin- i think he sucks really hard and gets a whole mouthful and can't swallow it all maybe? i'm saving the bottle for when he's a bit older and will try it again.

ramsha, the tommee tippee nipple stopped collapsing, but it was making him gag, and i think its because its a very long nipple and it hits the back of his throat or something. i've put this away too to try at a later date when he's a bit older.

i tried Avent today and he seemed to do ok with it but i thought there were a lot of bubbles built up around the nipple area that he was breathing in.
i also bought a playtex ventaire bottle to try because he seems to like the playtex nipples a lot. lets see if we can resolve the air issue with these. they've gotten really good reviews of their venting system online but i'm kind of annoyed that you can't put them in the bottle warmer.
