Best Anti-virus, internet-security SW

What would you recommend for a home network that is hooked to a cable modem with a desktop and wireless laptop?

Money is not an object. I don’t want free or shareware… I want to purchase but it has to be good.

Re: Best Anti-virus, internet-security SW

I say Norton for Virus scan :k: and also Internet Security firewall I guess. It most effective (and user friendly).

Lekin, just recently I had installed the lastest version of Zonealarm, I admit it is a lot less of a system hog compared to Norton. But it is a lot harder to configure. It kept blocking some of the connections without which I cannot work normally (because I have a webserver running on my PC) so I just removed it again and back to Norton for now.

When you install Norton (specially the Antivirus) then the system gets slower. Even starting up gets slow. So I have installed only installed the

Re: Best Anti-virus, internet-security SW

I’ve been testing out various firewalls recently and I think kerio is :k: … Avast is also quite impressive

Re: Best Anti-virus, internet-security SW

^-- me too

personally, I didnt like kerio that much.

Re: Best Anti-virus, internet-security SW

Getting a Dlink/3com/netgrear (etc.) Router with a built-in firewall would be a best solution for you.

As far as AV is concerned, Norton or Mcafee can be a choice.

Re: Best Anti-virus, internet-security SW

^Nothing like hardware firewall, netgear firewall definatly.

As much as i hate it, I have to admit Norton is a great product but only if doesn't craps out of you. I use sophos, its a great product but when I run NAV 05 on same machine after running sophos, it picks up a bit of crap.

Re: Best Anti-virus, internet-security SW

AntiVir is a great AV product… it dosnt strain the cpu as Norton does and its all free

Check it out http://www.free-av.com/

For firewall i’d reccomend Sygate very good stabil product http://smb.sygate.com/products/pspf/pspf_ov.htm

Re: Best Anti-virus, internet-security SW

microsoft anti spyware is pretty good for virus detections and sygate firewall, I like Norton, but for some reason it does not detect all the viruses. When I installed anti spyware it actually helped me get rid of all the spyware and viruses and it blocks all the incoming hacking attacks. Well, I am not a big fan of microsoft, but on some softwares they got lucky I guess, I am sure as other products this one might have bugs too, but I haven't come across one yet.

Re: Best Anti-virus, internet-security SW

I didn’t say I only have this or m relying on this :snooty:, I have several other progs, but I don’t like most of them.

Re: Best Anti-virus, internet-security SW

Sygate personal firewall is king...and the best antivirus is is little knows app called nod32...its eats the least system resources and is more accurate than norton and updates almost daily.

Re: Best Anti-virus, internet-security SW

my advice: for firewall Get Kerio

and for AntiVirus, no doubt, get Kaspersky

Re: Best Anti-virus, internet-security SW

NOD32 has my vote. It is ABSOLUTELY the best anti-virus out there.

Re: Best Anti-virus, internet-security SW

Has anybody tried comodo firewall?

FG, what is your technical level/know-how? If you can move around, I would advise getting a Cisco 831 router for your cable connection and wireless Access Point for the wireless PCs.

If you can't go that route then just buy Dlink/linksys router with built-in AP from electronics store and you will be set!

For AntiVirus, I would say AVG (either the free or professional version.)

Re: Best Anti-virus, internet-security SW

I have avast - its really good and from what I know it makes you resgister like every year or so and that way you have the latest one all the time.
