Re: Benazir blasted by Nawaz Sharif & Fazlur Rehman for “deal with Musharraf”
It’s quite amusing to see the opposition parties at each others throats, especially at this time. :hehe:
PPP senator lashes out at Qazi for criticising Benazir
By Rauf Klasra
Pakistan People’s Party Parliamentarians (PPPP) Senator Enver Baig on Sunday blasted Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal (MMA) President Qazi Hussain Ahmed for attacking PPP Chairperson Benazir Bhutto and reminded him of his unfulfilled promise made two years ago to resign from the parliament in case the National Assembly passed the Legal Framework Order (LFO). “By following the precedent set by General Musharraf, who had also vowed to doff his uniform that he never did, Qazi Hussain also did not fulfil his own promise to resign,” reminded Enver Baig, who is in London these days. Talking to The News, Baig said: “Talk of resigning from assemblies aside, the same Qazi along with Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain, Shaukat Aziz, Farooq Leghari, Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali and rest of the government MPs was seen standing obediently in long queues to vote in favour of the LFO.” Sharply reacting over Qazi’s criticism against Benazir Bhutto, Enver Baig wondered how could such politicians, who had made false promises, now target Benazir Bhutto. He said no one else but these MMA leaders were first to betray the political forces in 2004 by voting in favour of Musharraf to stay both as president and chief of the army staff.
Baig said ironically, today no one remembers, not even the otherwise very vigilant media, that the same Qazi had announced to resign on the floor of the House but later voted in favour of Musharraf within the parliament. He lamented that in Pakistan no one recalled acts of these religious leaders, but everybody was quick to taunt Benazir Bhutto about something, which she never did. He said if today General Musharraf is ruling Pakistan, the credit for it goes to the MMA leadership, as they had extended help to legitimise his rule. In return the MMA got the opposition leader’s slot in the National Assembly in addition to a lion’s share in the provincial government of Balochistan and chairmanship of many lucrative standing committees, he alleged. Baig said these people were again betraying the people of Pakistan by posing as the genuine opposition
