PML (N) Quaid Mian Nawaz Sharif has said that everyone is concerned over Benazir Bhutto’s possible deal with the government. He said any deal with General Musharraf will prove disastrous for the country no matter it was struck by PPP or PML (N). He was talking to journalists after his meeting with MMA leader Hafiz Hussain Ahmad at the PML (N) International Secretariat in London on Wednesday. He said they would talk to Benazir soon and try to revive Charter of Democracy. He said, “It would be unfortunate if a deal is struck with a dictator and we hope that nobody from among the opposition will take such a step.” He said, “What to say of deal with the dictator we will not even listen to or talk with the dictator, as it was against the CoD. He said PML (N) did not talk with the dictator before signing CoD, how it could talk after its ratification. He said rift in opposition alliance was not good for the country. “The countries where martial laws were imposed and constitutions abrogated could not maintain its integrity,” he added. He said there was a need to give a final blow to topple the government. He said unfortunately opinion of the Pakistani people was not taken into account while making decision on national issues. He said it was heartening to listen Maulana Fazlur Rehman talking of the formation of a grand alliance. Talking about deal rumours, Main Shahbaz Sharif said no signatory of CoD should talk with the military dictator. Hafiz Hussain Ahmad said that after signing CoD Benazir should not make deal with the government. He said if Benazir accepted Musharraf in uniform it could be dangerous for the country, He said after signing CoD, MMA started no confidence movement against Shaukat Aziz and supported basic points of CoD. He assured that MMA was ready to finalise joint strategy on a single platform. He said by the end of 2007 no body would stand by Musharraf. He said people wanted that the injustice meted out to Chief Justice. When asked about the implications of possible US attack on Iran, he said Balochistan would become a battlefield. Talking about the issue of Lal Masjid, he said Musharraf wanted to give a message to the West that if he was not given 10 more years Pakistan would no longer be a modern state. He said US possible attack on Iran would be considered attack on Pakistan.
PESHAWAR: Pakistan will ‘disintegrate and divide’ if former prime minister Benazir Bhutto comes to power again, MMA Secretary General Maulana Fazlur Rehman said on Tuesday. “Pakistan will break up and divide if the PPP comes to power again after the upcoming general elections,” Fazl, also the chief of JUI-F, told a JUI-F convention at the Auqaf Hall. Fazl said he could not understand why Ms Bhutto was unwilling to sit with the MMA. “I think she doesn’t want to sit with us because this will annoy the West and the US.” Fazl said the US wanted Ms Bhutto in power because she had told them that General Musharraf had failed to do the task entrusted to him. staff report
Re: Benazir blasted by Nawaz Sharif & Fazlur Rehman for “deal with Musharraf”
Benazir-Musharraf deal is done
Top emissaries of President General Pervez Musharraf and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairwoman Benazir Bhutto have finalised a draft of a deal between their bosses, Daily Times has learnt. Under the deal, sources said, the Pakistan People’s Party will first support the re-election of the president by the present assemblies, and later endorse the president in the assemblies after the general elections. In return, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) would stop pursuing corruption cases against Benazir and Asif Ali Zardari in Swiss courts. The sources said the emissaries of the president and PPP chairwoman gave finalised the draft of the deal on Sunday night after four rounds of talks held in Dubai and Islamabad in less than a week. A close relative of Benazir is said to be brokering the deal on her behalf. A six-member team, headed by National Security Council Secretary and top aide of the president Tariq Aziz, is representing the government in the talks with Benazir’s emissaries, who are led by PPP Parliamentarians Chairman Makhdoom Amin Fahim. The identities of the other members of the government team are not known. The sources said during the fresh round of talks in Dubai last Friday and Saturday, the president’s uniform remained the bone of contention. Sources, however, said that the president’s team assured Benazir of “flexibility” on the issue if she did the same. Before leaving for Dubai, the government team met with Benazir’s emissaries at Fahim’s farmhouse in Chak Shahzad in Islamabad, the sources said.
Re: Benazir blasted by Nawaz Sharif & Fazlur Rehman for "deal with Musharraf"
As if other parties or leaders are not corrupt.
hahahahaah true.
but he could have aligned himself with Imran Khan, whatever he is, he is not corrupt. sadlyy it seems the nation prefers the usual corrput ppl who have been in our assemblies for decades, or their sons, daugters, nieces and nephews to be in power.
Our movie industry sucks so I guess its nations way fo celebrity worshipping..
for all that I have said against Imran and the ineffectiveness of his party, I would choose him as a PM over any of these clowns any day. because when it all boils down, he is not crooked like them.
PS: on the man page the thread reads as benazir blasted by a... I clicked on the forum expecting to read teh continuation of that title as "a disgruntled pakistani citizen using a .38"
Re: Benazir blasted by Nawaz Sharif & Fazlur Rehman for "deal with Musharraf"
MMA and Nawaz are ticked off because they got stood up. Thats it. recall when qazi becane BBs lil pal after she became PM even after he had sais they would not accept a woman PM etc.

I still dont think Musharraf should make a deal with BB and let go of all the cases against her. That is just wrong.

thank u, i mix up these MMA folks :)
how was qazi with BB before and after her election btw?
The Jamiat-e-Islaami (JI) are just as opportunist as any other mullah party. Even though they were dead against having women as leaders, they backed Fatima Jinnah for the Presidency in the 1960's.

Unfortunately, Imran's tactics are revolutionary and not evolutionary. He's too straight for his own (and our) good. The clean-up of our political process will take 3 or 4 election cycles as people get used to holding those in power accountable through democratic process. Imran wants to get this done in a single election which is not going to happen.
By the way: We must credit Gen. Musharraf for giving Pakistani media total freedom. Our news media have really flourished and matured in a short amount of time under his reign. An open and free media environment will certainly expedite the strengthening of democratic process in Pakistan.

Very ture! And to date he is a single man show. He should be supported by educated and sincere people of the country.
Re: Benazir blasted by Nawaz Sharif & Fazlur Rehman for "deal with Musharraf"
Ther eis no doubt in my mind that Musharraf has been teh best leader Pakistan has had in the last few decades. I dont know pre zia times so cant comment on those. Musharraf has not done all i hopd he would, but it does not take away from all the good that he has done. People have short memories and they forget how things were like just 10 years ago.
Re: Benazir blasted by Nawaz Sharif & Fazlur Rehman for “deal with Musharraf”
Major opposition political parties, incl the PPP are moving closer towards Musharraf as elections draw ever closer.
Secular alliance being explored
Awami National Party president Asfandyar Wali Khan met Pakistan People’s Party chairperson Benazir Bhutto in Dubai last month and the Muttahida Qaumi Movement has also initiated an ‘informal’ dialogue with the PPP leadership in the country for political cooperation. If the PPP-MQM talks progress satisfactorily, a meeting between Altaf Hussain and Benazir Bhutto in London may also materialise in not too distant a future. Sources say the ANP and the PPP are willing to accept Gen Pervez Musharraf as president provided he steps down as the army chief and restores civilian rule. ANP secretary-general Ehsan Wyne confirmed the Dubai meeting between Mr Asfandyar and Ms Bhutto. He said his party had no objection to Ms Bhutto having a dialogue with the military regime for an end to the political stalemate – as long as she does not compromise on the uniform issue. “There is no other way out,” he told Dawn. Mr Wyne foresaw new political and electoral alliances emerging in place of existing coalitions, including the Alliance for Restoration of Democracy. “The new alliance may include progressive forces like the ANP, PPP, Pakistan Oppressed Nationalities Movement and even the Muttahida Qaumi Movement,” he said.
According to Mr Wyne, the ANP’s National Working Committee, which is scheduled to meet in Peshawar on April 29, would consider an alliance with the PPP, MQM and nationalist forces. MNA Farooq Sattar, deputy convener of the MQM Central Coordination Committee, said there had been ‘informal’ discussions between his party and the PPP leadership for political and electoral cooperation. **Talking to Dawn, he said organisations which believed in politically marginalising the religious right and which had a moderate and progressive agenda, must encourage and promote enlightened moderation as advocated by President Gen Musharraf. “We understand the president’s approach to issues is finding favour with the PPP,” he said. “The PPP, it seems, is willing to hold talks with the regime. We feel that dialogue, and not use of force, is the right path.”

Re: Benazir blasted by Nawaz Sharif & Fazlur Rehman for “deal with Musharraf”
Poor Nawaz - the ARD parties are deserting him.
Small ARD parties back Benazir-govt ‘contact’
All the smaller component parties of the Alliance for the Restoration of Democracy on Thursday threw their weight behind Pakistan People’s Party chairperson Benazir Bhutto in pursuing a dialogue with the government, saying it was a set political method and could not be termed a deal. The leaders of six ARD components, who did not include the PPP and the PML-N, told a news conference that the process of ‘negotiations’ was a traditional peaceful means of resolving political disputes, and it had assumed greater importance in Pakistan which was facing not only an internal political crisis, but was also exposed to threats like terrorism and extremism. Naveed Malik of the Pakistan Solidarity Front quoted the PPP chairperson, with reference to his meeting held with her in Dubai, as saying that Gen Musarraf had sent an emissary to solicit her support for getting re-elected president for the next tenure. He said Ms Bhutto had taken PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif into confidence on the issue in a telephonic conversation which lasted for about 45 minutes.
Syed Munir Husain Gilani of the Pakistan Islamic Front said a dialogue had become necessary, adding that the ARD was not holding talks with the regime for power but for the resolution of political and electoral problems. He said the alliance wanted to resolve major issues like role of armed forces, the establishment of a genuine democracy, provincial autonomy, holding of fair election, besides terrorism and extremism, which had become a potential threat to the unity and solidarity of the country. “The talks can be held only with the regime and no-one else because it is the regime which is to practically counter internal and external threats”, Mr Gilani added. Patras Ghani, the vice-president of the Pakistan Christian National Party, said the country was now facing a situation wherein it had become a hostage to various critical issues, necessitating dialogue with the regime. He said if Ms Bhutto was showing her willingness to accept Gen Musharraf as president for another five-year term on the condition that he should shed his uniform, it sounded a wise political move to rid the country of military rule. Mohammad Nawaz Gondal of the Pakistan Democratic Party, Saifullah Saif of the Muslim League (Qasim Group) and Pir Syed Naubahar Shah of the Shia Political Party also expressed similar views on the occasion.
