Beirut rally marks Hezbollah ‘victory’

BEIRUT, Lebanon (Reuters) – Tens of thousands of Hezbollah supporters gathered in the group’s Beirut stronghold on Friday, obeying a call by Hezbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah for a mass rally to mark the “divine victory” over Israel.

Organizers expect hundreds of thousands of people from across the country to attend the defiant evening rally in the Muslim Shi’ite southern suburbs, which were heavily bombed during the 34-day war.

Such a large turnout in a country of just four million would also mark a challenge to the coalition government of Prime Minister Fouad Siniora, which includes Hezbollah but is mostly opposed to the group’s Syrian and Iranian alliances.

A Lebanese political source said Nasrallah would attend the rally in person, despite the risk of possible Israeli attack.

“God was generous to us and granted us this victory against our enemy. He was generous to us and gave us Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah so we come here to celebrate with him,” Hussein Kaddouh, 29, from the southern village of Yater, told Reuters.

“We are willing to respond to Sayyed Nasrallah’s call with our blood, children and everything that we own.”

Hundreds set out on foot on Thursday from Shiite villages in south Lebanon battered by Israel’s bombardment and invasion.

The Beirut crowds carried pictures of Nasrallah and yellow Hezbollah flags with the message “Here we are Nasrallah.”

Hizbollah chief says still has 20,000 rockets

Fri Sep 22, 2006 11:24 AM ET

By Yara Bayoumy

BEIRUT (Reuters) - Hizbollah leader Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah said on Friday his Lebanese guerrillas still had more than 20,000 rockets after their month-long war with Israel and no army in the world could disarm them.

Speaking to a sea of followers at a “divine victory” rally in south Beirut, Nasrallah said the Shi’ite Muslim group had emerged stronger from the conflict and also called for a new government in Lebanon.

“The resistance today, pay attention…has more than 20,000 rockets,” he told hundreds of thousands of cheering supporters in his first public appearance since the war broke out in July.

“(It) has recovered all its organizational and military capabilities…it is stronger than it was before July 12,” Nasrallah told the crowd in the Shi’ite Muslim suburbs which were heavily bombed in the 34-day war.

“There is no army in the world that can (force us) to drop our weapons from our hands, from our grip,” he declared.

The huge turnout in a country of just four million was a gesture of defiance to Israel but also marked a challenge to the U.S.-backed government of Prime Minister Fouad Siniora.

Re: Beirut rally marks Hezbollah 'victory'

This is good stuff.

Thanks for sharing. I love these mujahids of Hizbollah and Hamas.

Re: Beirut rally marks Hezbollah 'victory'

Yes it was some victory....

Over 1,200 Lebanese Dead, 700 Hezbollah Terrorists Dead, Half of Beirut Destroyed, Lebanese Oil Spill destroyed half of Lebanon's famed beaches, foreign troops will now patrol the Israeli-Lebanese Border....

Wow, if that is considered a victory, I shudder to think what they consider a defeat

Re: Beirut rally marks Hezbollah 'victory'

Cheap people with literal appraoch will always view loss or victory in respect of destructions, while there is another thing (specially among Muslims) i.e will to stand firm against thousand times stronger enemy than you, thats what Hezbullah did.

As for who won or lost, lets see then. Evil's (Israeli) motive was:

  1. To bring its two soldiers back
  2. To stop the rockets falling on occupied land of Israel
  3. To debelitate hezbullah for good
  4. To disarm Hezbullah

Taking the into consideration the superiority Israel enjoys in conventional and non-conventional weapons leading to the 'invincibility' myth:

1.They were not able to bring their two soldiers back
2. Rockets were falling till the last day of war on Israel
3. No major affect on Hizbullah
4. Hizbullah have still 20,000 rockets

Above all, Hizbullah now have the utmost support of their people. So in the end, evil of Zionisim had to taste the dust.

Re: Beirut rally marks Hezbollah 'victory'

^^
Hezbollah will never be bold enough to launch a similar attack against Israel without realizing the reprecussions of their actions. In essence, Israel's very harsh response has muted the threat of Hezbollah. Even though they still have rockets, and they are still intact, they also know the main pain for their actions will be felt by the Lebanese people and Nasrallah himself has said that if he knew the kind of response Israel would give then it wouldnt have done what it did.

Now, a robust foreign troops are patrolling the Israel-Lebanon border, and the Lebanese Army is being beefed up to take over its territory.

This situation reminds me of 1970 when PLO terrorists used Jordan as a base to attack Israel and Israel responded by attacking Jordanian targets. Jordan had had enough and removed PLO from its country. So the harsh actions by the Israelis made the Jordanians realize that their continual actions is not worth the punishment they will receive.

Lastly, nothing makes a person fight more passion than realizing that if he loses, his family, his race and his religion face annhiliation by the hands of his enemies.

Arabs lost in 48, 67, 73 and this war has shown that Israel got arrogant but make no mistake, Israel will go over this war with a fine tooth comb to figure out its flaws and correct its mistakes.

Celebrate this if you want, but I doubt a similar scenario will repeat it self.

Re: Beirut rally marks Hezbollah 'victory'

A victory is a victory, and indeed, it is hard for the enemy to swallow.

Re: Beirut rally marks Hezbollah 'victory'

As i stated earlier narrow-minded people will always be counting things on the basis of destruction. I dont know why the heck they dont put this things in their mind that (true) Muslims are not frightened by the destruction of their infra structure or even the sacrifice of their people!

No wonder why the above 4 objectives of Zionists (which were never accomplished) were not mentioned by you. Anyhow, the gist of the issue is, whenever people like Hizbullah have faith in Almighty, inshallah they will not be humiliated.

Re: Beirut rally marks Hezbollah ‘victory’

The great Muslim scholar Hasan Nasrullah showed up despite Israel’s death threats:

Nasrallah’s public show of defiance

By Crispin Thorold
BBC News, Beirut

**When Sheikh Hassan Nasrallah appeared in public after two months in hiding, it was to the rapturous chants of several hundred thousand of the party faithful. **
The leader of Hezbollah had ignored repeated threats against his life by Israel, to proclaim his movement’s “divine victory”.

The Hezbollah supporters were crammed into a square in southern Beirut, next to an area that had been destroyed by Israel during the conflict.

The square was awash with the yellow and green of Hezbollah flags.

Enormous glossy propaganda posters the size of a house hung from the overlooking apartment blocks.

One had a photograph of Israeli soldiers carrying an injured comrade. The caption read: “It’s Lebanon, you fools.”
Another showed Hezbollah rockets being fired. That poster proclaimed: “Lebanon will never surrender.”

When he spoke, Sheikh Nasrallah was defiant. “We have made one of the strongest armies in the world look like rats,” he said.

**His speech was repeatedly interrupted by the chants of the faithful. “Nasrallah we are at your service,” they shouted. **

As they cheered the Hezbollah leader thanked the people for their steadfastness during the conflict.

He condemned Israel and the United States - but he also had a message for Arab regimes, urging them to remain united against their enemies, especially Israel.

Demands
Sheikh Nasrallah also reiterated his movement’s refusal to give up its weapons until the government of Lebanon “can defend the country’s borders”.

“No-one can force the movement to disarm,” he said. He added that Hezbollah had more than 20,000 rockets. Before the war the movement claimed that it had more than 12,000.

There were also some indications of what Hezbollah wants from Israel in the long term - the disputed Sheba Farms region to be given to Lebanon and the release of Lebanese prisoners in Israeli jails.

Both of those demands are considered but not resolved in UN Security Council resolution 1701, which led to a cessation of hostilities.
Dotted amongst the Hezbollah flags in the crowd were Lebanese flags, and the banners of some of the parties allied to Hezbollah.

Since the end of the conflict last month, Hezbollah and its allies have been calling for a new “government of national unity”.
Although Hezbollah is part of the current government led by Prime Minister Fouad Siniora, the movement believes that a new administration, which reflects its popular support should now be formed.

This speech also increased the political pressure on the prime minister.

At one stage, Hassan Nasrallah accused Mr Siniora of weakness during the conflict.

**He contrasted the prime minister’s tears with Hezbollah’s resistance to Israeli attacks. **

Charisma
Political analysts say the fact that Hassan Nasrallah spoke in public at all is extremely significant - as was the duration of the speech.

**Before the rally commentators in Lebanon had speculated that Hassan Nasrallah would only talk for 10 minutes. **
**Instead, he spoke for over an hour, which was a defiant act given Israel’s threats over the past few months to kill him. **

The leader of Hezbollah left the stage, as he had arrived, quickly and without ceremony.

He was shepherded away by some of the thousands of security guards who were on duty, and returned to a hiding place.

As the crowds dispersed Hezbollah’s supporter’s guns were fired again - not in aggression but into the air in victory.
Hezbollah and its charismatic leader appear to have emerged from this conflict and today’s rally politically stronger. In the coming months they will try to convert that popular support into political gain.

Re: Beirut rally marks Hezbollah 'victory'

^ what does this all have to do with the conflict?

Re: Beirut rally marks Hezbollah ‘victory’

I second that :k: brother.

Why is he bringing all that Israeli stuff in this thread?

Mercenry2k,

Stick to the subject!

Re: Beirut rally marks Hezbollah 'victory'

More like the Israeli terrorists will think twice about initiating a conflict with Hizbollah. That's what happens when you get your ass kicked. It's too bad Hizbollah didn't eliminate the same amount of Israeli civilians that the Israeli terrorists did in Lebanon. I hope those Israeli terrorists burn in hell.

Re: Beirut rally marks Hezbollah 'victory'

and they say muslims arent peace loving people

Re: Beirut rally marks Hezbollah ‘victory’

That was the result of a strike on an oil depot. I wonder what kind of operations the terrorist Lebanese were conducting in an oil depot :naraz:

Lets just put it in simple terms: Israel terrorized the innocent Lebanese.

And, this is yet another peice of evidence that Israel wanted to attack the innocent people of Lebanon (not just Hezbollah).

The Israelis are really smart when it comes to destruction. This attack on the oil depot is a classic example, which most people miss. The water on the coast of Lebanon moves towards the North, hence all the oil is moving to the North (away from Israel), along the coast.
The ruined beaches will add to the shattered economy, considering the fact that the tourism sector will decline significantly, and the clean up costs of such disasters are enormous [the 1989 Alaskan oil spill clean-up cost over $2billion].

Re: Beirut rally marks Hezbollah 'victory'

^^ Exactly, then how can Hezbollah claim a victory under such circumstances?

I agree that what Israel did in response to its kidnapping of its 2 soldiers was very brutal and innocent lebanese civilians were killed needlessly

but the blame falls on hezbollah for initiaiting this latest round of violence. if israel didnt respond forcefully, hezbollah and others would continue to do this

Re: Beirut rally marks Hezbollah 'victory'

Had it not been for Hezbollah's victory, Beirut most probably would've been flattened. Hezbollah pushed the Israelis back. So it is indeed, a victory.

Hezbollah did not start this. Hezbollah should have every right to kidnap Israeli soldiers if Israel kidnaps 10s of thousands of innocent Arab civilians and keeps them prisoners illegals, and at the same time recieves no punishment from the U.N (whose humanitarian laws were broken by Israel).

Re: Beirut rally marks Hezbollah ‘victory’

Yes, they are. This is called and “eye for an eye”.

Re: Beirut rally marks Hezbollah 'victory'

that makes the whole world blind
