Re: Beirut rally marks Hezbollah 'victory'

One good thing about this Hezbollah victory is that it is giving a lot of heartburn to extremist Salafis. They can't decide who to hate more now, the Jews or the Shias!

Re: Beirut rally marks Hezbollah 'victory'

come on you dont seriously believe that BS from gandhi
you are thinking in strictly military terms....obviously there is no match between isreal and hizboallah's military strenght and had the isrealis fought a fullscale war without restrictions no doubt they would have trounced hizboallah in a few days...but the nature of warfare has changed since the 60-70s isrealis when have been trained to attack hordes of arab tanks and destroy neatly parked airplanes, now it is all about public opinion

and as it stands today hizboallah have won a major political victory even if we assume that militarily it was close to a defeat.

Re: Beirut rally marks Hezbollah 'victory'

Hezbollah fought an asymmetric war and Israel fought a symmetric war...

When these types of battles occur, asymmetric is usually the one that triumphs even though it will suffer more casualties, and defeats...

But Israel by heavily bombing Lebanon has ensured that Hezbollah will probably never abduct Israeli soldiers or cross into Israel and attack Israelis...

Even though Hezbollah will keep their weapons and wont disarm, they wont be fired at the Israelis as Hezbollah knows the heavy price the Lebanese people will pay for their adventures in Israel

So it was a tactical hezbollah victory but a strategic israeli victory

Re: Beirut rally marks Hezbollah 'victory'

it is far too premature to declare anything a "strategic" victory since we havent seen the long term effects. Clearly two of the things predicted at the end of the war, that Hezbollah would lose its public support and that they would be eliminated as a military force have not come about. The israeli prisoners still havent been released.

You say "in the future" Hezbollah wont be making adventures, what about this one, if they are indeed so cowered why arent the israeli prisoners released?
