Re: Being poor in Pakistan…

Does anyone on this earth still believe figures, datas and statisrics by government of Pakistan resources and organizations?

For last 50 years, the bureauocrats and rulers of Pakistan manipulated Sindh province’s population incorrectly (including Karachi and Urdu speaking people) to deprive them, cities, province and the population from their true share in field of development and gave advantages to the big brother till Mustarraf came and increased the seats of National and provincial assemblies and gave correct numbers. All these numbers, indicators by state bank, Pakistani experts are a piece of crap and only useful to pass college and university exams or to show to the international agengies to qualify for aid, loans and monetary help and it has nothing to do with reality.

Re: Being poor in Pakistan…

Can you give us the population figures for each province,…Sindh,…NWFP,…Baluchistan,..and Punjab…?

Then I shall ask you the next question…

Re: Being poor in Pakistan…

What it has to do with my above statement?

Re: Being poor in Pakistan…

As you just said,…

That’s why,..I wanted to find out,..the population numbers,…

Re: Being poor in Pakistan...

this is eye opener, to see sheikhupura in top ten, i dont know how this is based on HDI ranks, it has good industry, but human development i dont think it can be rated as high as in top 10, i doubt it very much. and seeing Lahore at 12th place, it show how much population can make difference and strain on facilities HDI.

Re: Being poor in Pakistan...

^ If you want linkages..most of the top 10 areas are Army recruiting zones..most of the bottom 10 are under represented in all levels despite being mineral rich..

Re: Being poor in Pakistan…

In a regional perspective, one can understand the HDI numbers for Sheikhupura and Kasur or may be to some extent the numbers for Rawalpindi since they are north and south of the two largest metropolitan areas in Punjab and had become economically savvy in the last decade or so…but the rest of the three districts from Punjab they are totally dependent upon military assistance. You can argue about Jehlum to some extent but Bhakkar and Khushab, its just an indication that how military government helps in trickling down the money to the right places, military in Pakistan is biased to the core.

On the side note one has to keep the numbers in perspective there are 91 district governments in Pakistan and out of those 91, 34 are in Punjab, which accounts for 55.6 % (1998 Census) of the total population. The HDI is popular scale to measure the level of development in an area analyzing different elements such as economic growth, health, education and the quality of life.

Tariq, here is a table of Pakistan’s population

Re: Being poor in Pakistan…

Yet another one.

Re: Being poor in Pakistan...

Dear, if you are still over sensitive on this issue why dont you give us another opinion about the high HDI in Bhkkar and Khushab, may be then we will point our fingers some where else.

Re: Being poor in Pakistan…

I would like to add the domination of one ethnic group or geographic group in the Military is no neccesarily a bad thing…it is very common in the US and other Nations..it is when that applies to the political system..then you have problems..

NEWSLINE Consider this excerpt: “The focal point of Punjabi domination was and remains the army. Seventy-five per cent of the army is drawn from three Punjab districts (Rawalpindi, Jhelum, and Campbellpur) and two adjacent districts in the NWFP (Kohat and Mardan). These districts contain only nine per cent of Pakistan’s male population. The officer corps is drawn from a wider, more urban base, but is still predominately Punjabi, often the sons of junior commissioned officers. Pakistan’s air force and navy are drawn from a much wider base.”
