Being killed for marrying a christian man and leaving Islam

Re: Being killed for marrying a christian man and leaving Islam

why is she not a pakistani? I mean she lives abroad but she has pakistani roots. She has mentioned how her mother was a gynaecologist in a city of Pakistan. Even if desi people live abroad they still have connection and love for their country even if they have different perspective.

I have heard mention of apostasy laws in Pakistan and like Pakistan
India also has blasphemy laws since the raj. Except I think pakistani laws got tougher in 70s. PCG also mentioned that majority in Pakistan does not agree with apostasy laws which must mean they exist. Some of my pakistani friends mention they exist also so that’s why I say this.

This is a foreign website and I’m not saying I agree with their survey results because I’m sure there is bias and they also probably believe most Indians are rapist sympathisers. I want to highlight that it shows huge variety in muslim opinion from different countries and even then many say it is misuse of Sharia.

Also the survey is among those who support sharia which shows even then there is great diversity of views.

While 79% of afghani muslims support it only 1/6 of Tunisian muslims support it and only 1/7 of Lebanese muslims do. Pakistan is somewhere in between. Only 6% of Russian muslims, 1% of Albanian and 0.5% of Kazakhs support it. The article also says 95% of Pakistanis support religious freedom and that initially the rule was used like people would use the law for treason in the west. I do believe Pakistan has richer culture than Middle East and greater history of tolerance as well as many famous Sufis contributions. This was how Islam became influential in subcontinent. Who can forget Sufis like the ones from Punjab and Sindh like Bulleh shah and Shahbaz Qalandar. I’d like foreigners to also acknowledge this about pakistan.

This is from a more liberal paper which talks about apostasy laws and how they are not supported by verses. Supporting Islam's apostates | Ali Eteraz | The Guardian

Nothing wrong with acknowledging people will have sentiments about this.
Recently we had some new anti-superstition laws put in by the government which some religious people didn’t like and retaliated against by killing the person who came up with laws. These laws don’t stop people’s practice of religion it just stops it affecting others. I’d be against such laws in India or west also.

I don’t want this to become an India vs Pakistan thing because I’m not a nationalist and I believe India has similar issues. Only thing is we don’t have official laws. Not really interested in arguing which country is better. If people abroad have particular image of Pakistanis they also think all Indians are rapists and no doubt it is a big issue. It can’t be denied and should be acknowledged even if it is not good for our image. The desi mindset needs to be changed and we should be open to criticism in order to be better. Even if criticism comes from west. Just my personal views.
