The difference is what constitute friendship. Being acquaintance is different than being close friend.
There is always a potential in latter.

And who is to say, something which starts as friendship will not go on to other level? Any guarantee even if the person does not want to, in the beginning?
Not everyone starts close friendship with any future intention.
Again not talking about mere acquaintances or co workers.

You know when you meet even half way decent looking person with matchable credentials, and regardless you have no intention,...
....*you do feel attracted to the person *...especially if the meeting is in privacy...library, being alone in apartment/house or being left alone at work/school room etc. and talk like innocent friends. :D

Actually the thing which changes from friendship to something more in opposite gender cases is that they know they can get married if they are compatible with each other and they have good understanding. If you are straight person and have good understanding with your friend of same gender then you know you can’t married with that person but in opposite gender you start thinking in other direction because it is possible. So behind every close friendship between different genders there is love hidden… somewhere

I've been to movies, plays, dinners with close friends... strange that none of us developed any 'feelings' you talk of diwana bhai. My best friend is also a make, i've known him for over 14 years... we never fell in 'love' either. It* is* possible, yes..but you can't say that every close friendship will eventually turn into a love story.

I have seen so many of them turn in to a love sorta thing. I guess if it works out for some people than more power to them but a lot if us are driven by nature.

Waisay I don't make male best friends but hypothetically speaking, u can't make friends intentially atleast I can't. Either things click or they don't so if I m best friend with a guy already, I would wanna marry him because being my best friends is one of the most important trait I want in my future husband.

and i am not talking abt where u flirt with ur guy friend but u are still frands, thats gross in my head.
oh hell ya!! some of the convo I have with my guy friends I can't even imagine talking them with any girl @least the ones I know. Guys know so much about cars, finances, my field, cricket, etc.

Either things click or they don't so if I m best friend with a guy already, I would wanna marry him because being my best friends is one of the most important trait I want in my future husband.
So a platonic friendship is possible right? For things to even 'click' you'd have to know them enough... (without any feelings for them). I'm not saying it isn't possible.. but like people have generalized that ALL close friendships turn into love stories.. I beg to differ.

My bezzie mate happens to be my brothers best mate too but my brother does not know! Been mates with him a lot longer than my brother has too. I find I can get a male perspective on a lot of things/issues and it is completely platonic. We don't fancy each other, we don't cross the line and we know everything about each other. He even came to my wedding as my brother's guest and we are so comfortable together. There has never been any awkwardness around us and Im currently trying to find him a partner lol! That said, I don't thin my parents or hubby would approve, they would just assume that there is summat going on so I am careful about keeping it all cloak and dagger and not rub people's nose in it.
