Before Ramadan 2017 arrives ..

Any resolutions before Ramadan this year?

I came across a group recently where a few people planned together to learn important Surah’s of Quran , before Ramadan , so they could recite them during Taraweeh.

I started at my own pace and Alhumdullillah am learning Surah’s like Yaseen, Surah Mulk, Surah Rahman . Hopefully before this Ramadan , I will have completely learnt them nicely to be able to read them in prayers without forgetting in the middle !

Any resolutions that you have ?

Re: Before Ramadan 2017 arrives ..

Oh Ramadhan is already coming?! Yes I make some resolutions before and for Ramadhan but I’m failure to comply or act on those so far.

Just like CB, I also have surah memorization as one of them but I’m so lost in other stuff that couldnt keep with it. hopefully this year..

Re: Before Ramadan 2017 arrives ..

Pre-Ramadan, I gotta make up my fasts from last year. I want to get through the Quran once in English (that’s the only language I’ll understand) and once in Arabic. I also want to skim through tafseer, highly unlikely I’ll complete it. Make a dua list, a prayer chart, and a “good deeds to-do” list. I do want to give up lying and back biting and these lazy and unproductive habits I got going on. I always tell myself to give up one sin and never return to it, and enforce at least 3 good habits or deeds. This, I’ll tell you, is easier said than done!

Right now, I’m shaky on my prayers. It’s been two days that I prayed all 5, however, not all on time. If I can get through this week telling myself to pray all five, then next week I can focus on making them on time. I can add the sunnah and nafl building up from that. I started following along a recitation of the Quran. Takes about 50 min per Juz. I can fit this in before sleeping and opt for my English Quran rather than Netflix.

I’m so glad you started this thread. When I see other people working toward the same goals, it uplifts and motivates me also. =)

Re: Before Ramadan 2017 arrives ..

@ChumChum Absolutely beautiful resolutions hope you are able to attain them In Shaa Allah . I suggest , that you stick to one or two of these resolutions per year , it ensures long term adherence . When we are focused on too much , we just give up .

Re: Before Ramadan 2017 arrives ..

Thanks! and InshaAllah I hope you can attain yours also. And I agree with your advice. I will focus on giving up back biting this year. Good Lord, help me!

Re: Before Ramadan 2017 arrives ..

Ameen. Giving up on Backbiting is going to prove to be a bit of a challenge . Get ready for it ! So many people around us just love gossiping and they dont realize it also comes under the same category as backbiting. So if you dont do it yourself to request others to not do it , you might get thrown out of the social circles . Bus that is the only challenge

But Allah helps immensely when we set foot to the right path. I avoid it too , when i have to say something negative about a person I question myself as well if i will be able to say the exact same thing to that person on their face? If the answer is yes , then i just say it .

Good luck :))))

Re: Before Ramadan 2017 arrives ..

Hehehe, yeah I’m making myself out to be the social outcast! No doubt, its gonna be hard CB! (your username is going to make me salivate once Ramadan approaches!) =p

Thank you so much for your well wishes!

Re: Before Ramadan 2017 arrives ..

Aren’t the verses and Surahs in Quran to practice and not for recite or memorizing only…if iam not wrong, mathematically speaking:
Recitation : 5 points
HIFZ : 10 points
Practice : 85 points

In Quran, Allah SWT says, Mountains would have been crushed under the weight of this Quran if he had given the Book to them…

Anyway, 5 or 10 points are still better than nothing…but that is not the purpose It was revealed on us…

Re: Before Ramadan 2017 arrives ..

So whats wrong in memorizing them ? or encouraging everyone around us to learn Quran more and more ?
Why do we start judging everything and attach negativity with it?

Memorizing is a huge blessing , its not easy for every tom and harry to be able to learn Quran . It also proves to be a great blessing for people coz taking out time every day to read what they have memorized refreshes their imaan , encourages them to apply quranic teaching in their day to day lives .

Until the time I had learnt some surah’s, I literally used to feel crippled . It used to be feel like such a hassle to find time and sit down to read it word by word . Often times it would be days before i actually went to read Quran. But now its a beautiful connection I feel with the book and Allah . I read every day what I have memorized . The meaning of it goes through my head and makes me think of Allah and the messages given to us in the verses .

At the end of the day , memorizing creates a win win situation .

Re: Before Ramadan 2017 arrives ..

Why are yoy getting so defensive???

And where did i wrote that there 8s something wrong in reciting and memorizing…

Just said, that Quran is here to act upon, to follow the instruction… and not only for recitation and memorizing without knowing what it means…

Most people ( and not talking about u) normally gets very offensive when they are told that the book is for not reciting in particular month and/or on particular occasion ( like people recite Sura e Yasin for a dying person) without having slight idea that The Book is for not this purpose and worst they have no idea what they are reading ( imagine reading book of algebra)…

Now talking about apply, i often wonder what is there so difficult in Quran so difficult to apply, in its essence, Allah want us to be Just and Kind, take care of others, be humble, be there to help…
Just take one aya, think about it, and see how come it can be applied…that would be better than a recitation of one hour…and aya will be memorized, and this way, one can memorize and apply 365 ayas out of 6666 in one year…

Now if we recite the 2nd aya after Alif Laam Meem of Sura e Baqra, where Quran says, This is book, without mistakes, for the one who seeks guidance and are Mutaqi…

No offence here, this Openning Statements ( till aya 5) talk about the persons who are successfull…

Wont take much of your time… we Pakistani most of the time like you under-utilize things, and Quran is no exception here, the book is used for:

  1. taking oaths
  2. in weddings for rukhsati
  3. in Ramzan, for reciting only..
  4. for dead ones
  5. for dying ones…

Alas the book is here for the living one, how to live…

Sorry if i have wasted ur time

Re: Before Ramadan 2017 arrives ..

@hanibal , apologies if it appeared too defensive . Actually for years I have been through a situation where when ever I said i want to achieve or learn quran , I would get told exactly the same as you said , practice is more important . Where as I have realized that this actually in a way discourages the other. I decided to listen to my heart and did memorize bits and suddenly felt a very good connection , as i explained above .

So now when someone says I want to learn this or do this ( something positive ) , I always tell them to do it definitely . Instead of giving them options and alternatives etc . Is liye ,I said what i said above .

Though I completely agree with you on this that as an Add on to memorizing , one must ensure that memorizing alone means nothing and putting it in practice is what gains us real benefit . This is what I have practically felt too . after a while of memorizing we tend to take it for granted but we must take the time every now and then to contemplate over what we are reading .

Re: Before Ramadan 2017 arrives ..

Peace,

We have so many things to memorize before starting of month of the Ramadhan. In simple wording ‘very busy’
