Before & After

Which is better? Personally she looks prettier in the first one, her natural look.

I have to add that there is a new trend happening in Pakistani fashion, for a while now I guess. It's the 'EDGY' look. Gone are the sweet and long haired models who were every mothers pride. Now models, like Iraj are going for more daring looks with short, modern hair and more experimental make-up. Clothes are also getting more revealing with daring cuts and lengths. But I think only certain models can pull this off. I'll add a pic of Iraj's hair if nobody else has already.

I like the natural look too. It's so ....ermm natural. :-D

Nothing wrong with experimenting and trying out new styles. As long as you're not pretending to be what you're not.

No doubt in my mind, though, her eyes, cheek bones, hair (could maybe use a trim :p ), skin tone, much prettier in the first.

She looks like a plain Jane in the first one, and the second one just destroys her altogether. I choose none of the above.

chnage is good if its for the better...she looks like a man :-s

they could have done some curls and played around w/ her hair in the first one. The 2nd one is just bekaar!

what the heck did they do to that poor girl!

she just needed 4 inches off her hair, layers and different clothes and she woulda been straight.

This is the model Tanya, if you guys didn't recognize her. She's had a lot of different looks in her previous shoots, but she's always looked better with her long straight hair. But she's a very modern and young looking model, unlike Reema for instance who is more ethnic and traditional. A Reema or Meera could not pull of an 'edgy' look.

I think it's a good change in the fashion scene for women to be young, fresh and fun. It's like they're saying they don't think being sexy and idealistically beautiful is important. It's more important to be hip and just have fun.

^ Speaking of Reema, you can see some recent pics of her here:

(she looks kinda scary in some, so beware)

I love the after pic.The haircut and the whole look is so playful and cheery .

First pic is nice- but kinda boring looking.

first one is pretty

I was going to add some pics of Iraj's new look. She's worn her newly short hair in a 'faux hawk' in some pictures. It's a new change, very edgy. But she did have beautiful long hair....once upon a time.

You know something saima? I read in Dawn a few days back that people are getting horrified by her new look and one of the advertisement agencies asked her to use a wig instead of her new haircut cuz of the same reason :)

Personally i haven't ever liked iraj but i admit she used to look better previously.

saimanyc I dont know how quick do you get info regarding Pakistan Fashion scene but atleast from this post it seems its mostly based on the internet. The things you have mentioned bout these models changing their looks and stuff like that well ... it has been there for some time now.

You mentioned Iraj and Taniya but you forgot to mention Amna Haq who is sporting bloned hair these days.

but all of this was started of by Aliya Latif who was known as "Bibi" .. if you look at her photoshoots from the early part of the 1990s you will find these edgie and daring looks, it was something which was latter on was carried on by models like taniya and iraj (both have been in this field for over a decade now). But these are not the only names there were others like Naveen, Seemi Pasha, Iffat, Zoella, Aliya Zaidi etc.

as for your mention of Reema and Meera ... you are forgetting one lil thing ... they are not models ... they are (well atleast they think they are) film actresses. And as par the fashion critics in Pakistan the only Pakistani actress who can fill in the shoes for a model is Resham and she has done it on many catwalk shows too.

SP, you're right. I get all my Pakistani fashion info from the net because I live in NYC. I wish I was more up to date. But I'm making an observation and hoping others like yourself can fill me in with more pics or info. I've seen Amnah Haq's new blonde locks too...with bangs. I was wondering at first if that was a wig or added extensions. But I guess it's really her hair. So, Stranger, can you tell me in your opinion if Pakistani fashion trends tend to borrow from the Western trends? If so, then how soon after Vogue does Pakistani fashion world start to borrow ideas.

Btw...here's a pic of Iraj with her long hair....the Before pic to her After pic.

First thing i would like to make very clear is that in my opinion the Pakistan Fashion scene has grown enough that it no longer needs to borrow. The simple reason for that is coz now Pakistani designers are trying to hit a wider market (by that i mean atleast the Pakistanis leaving abroad if not the world market as a whole), so if they borrow or if you put it crudly copy stuff from vogue or cosmo than people will catch them very quickly.

we can see from the number of international shows the Pakistani Fashion industry is doing that uptil now people are interested in them. As for the trends, well trends are something which is followed by everyone so if someone follow a trend but comes up with an original creation than i doubt you can call it borrowing.

Most of Pakistani desingers are into eastern stuff, i doubt that someone can borrow something from the Paris or Milan fashion scene and put it into a pakistani bridal dress or a sherwani.
