Beautiful Port City Karachi burns again....

Fear grips Karachi as death toll rises to 22

KARACHI: Another wave of target killings hit Karachi leaving 22 people killed in the last 24 hours including Geo News reporter Wali Khan Babar in different parts of the country’s commercial capital, Geo News reported.

At least seven people were killed yesterday while fifteen more lost lives today.

Gulistan-e-Jauhar’s Pahalwan Goth area was once again under the grip of violence where two groups exchanged fire. Sindh CM’s helicopter pilot Major Iqbal Kaashmiri was shot dead near Rabia City and another man was killed on Jam Sadiq Bridge in Korangi Industrial Area.

Two injured people also succumbed to the injuries.

The most serious incident occurred in Orangi Town when armed men attacked a bus of route 1-D near Qasba More, in which six people, including a seven-year-old girl Dua and a woman, were killed.

The bodies and the injured were shifted to the Abbasi Shaheed and Qatar Hospitals.

Those killed were identified as Faraz, Rashid Anwar, Javed and Dua while two remained unidentified. Later, large contingents of police and Rangers started patrolling the affected areas.

In another incident, a man identified as Hamaad, an MQM supporter, was shot dead in Liaquatabad area late night that was laid to rest today. Police said the victim was standing outside his house when two armed men riding a motorcycle opened fire on him.

Earlier, unidentified assailants riding a two-wheeler opened fire on ANP Sindh Secretary General Basheer Jan and his colleague Arshad near the Civic Center. As a result, both received injuries and were rushed to the JPMC, where their condition is stated to be out of danger.

Police said that Basheer Jan had come to visit an office in Gulshan area when he was attacked by some unknown armed men who later managed to flee from the scene. The ANP leader received bullets on both hands and on the back, hospital sources said. Police have registered a case and started investigation.

Violence and firing incidents were reported from different parts of the city, including Manghopir, Orangi Town, Qasba More and the Kati Pehari area.

This is just utterly sad. So many precious lives are wasted over what’s probably some petty egoistic reasons.

May the deceased rest in peace. Inna Lillahi wa inna ilaihee raajioon.

Anyone know about this in greater detail? And why it’s happening?

Beautiful?
It is a relative term. Karachi may be beautiful when compared to Khariyan, but it is not when compared to other megapolis of the world of similar population.

Re: Beautiful Port City Karachi burns again....

This is ethnic riots. Plain and simple.
Every murderer, regardless of the party, must be punished. The search operations by police and rangers seem to be working all right.

Re: Beautiful Port City Karachi burns again....

Honestly WTF is wrong with Karachi? Thank god I don't live there, no intention of going there either.

Re: Beautiful Port City Karachi burns again....

I'm not trying to start some lahore vs karachi competition here. What I mean is there are many different races in Karachi and these races promote hate for each other hence yeah it is a racist city. When you have people like Mohajirs forming political parties based on race and self pity then you get what you see today.

Your post highlights your bigotry very well. "Unwanted migrants" with their "illiteracy" and "drugs" are ruining the city. Of course they are, let's kill em all.

Re: Beautiful Port City Karachi burns again....

Yes you can say anything to MQM but the thing is this party was formed because of the injustices done to the people of Karachi. Urdu speakers were left isolated in those days. I come from a minority religion and know what it feels like to be discriminated and isolated in your own city. Im not an MQM worker but they have done great work in the city.
Didn't Pathans form a party on race, why are you isolating Urdu speakers?

We will see what happens if Punjabis were to become a minority in Lahore or Pathans a minority in Peshawar.

btw where is the police to stop this crime, oh yeah I forgot most of them aren't even from this city or Province.

Re: Beautiful Port City Karachi burns again....

AHH........ i feel isolated... why not get an AK-47 and have some fun!!!!

Re: Beautiful Port City Karachi burns again....

Ah but of course we being Pakistanis must pull each others' legs even in the minute matters of urban glory. Take a chill pill brotha. Karachi, as far as Pakistan is concerned is a beautiful city. :)

And thanks for the brief on possible cause for the unrest and undue deaths. I really do hope Police and Rangers go full throttle to bring peace in the shortest time while capturing all the culprits regardless of party affiliations or ethnic backgrounds. Peace must be preserved.

Re: Beautiful Port City Karachi burns again....

These kinds of things are bound to happen...and absolutely nothing can be done to stop it

You have 20 million people living in this city...so obviously this kind of stuff is going to happen....

And Karachi is Beautiful? Compared to what? a Garbage dump?

Re: Beautiful Port City Karachi burns again....

Unfortunately too many people for whatever reason continue to migrate to a small area and do not contribute to the city in terms of tax payment, keeping it clean etc. and on top of it, bringing uneducated, feudal, gun and drug culture...despite taking the benefit from it.

Re: Beautiful Port City Karachi burns again....

Awaam roz mar'rahi hai Magar Bhutto zinda hai :(

Re: Beautiful Port City Karachi burns again....

When was the last episode of this Target Killing? i guess it was in late November early December.. it happens every month as per the info from i got, it is total 30-35 people of whom police and rangers knows well but are not allowed to take action as it may de-rail the system and affect the interest of certain parties.

ANP, MQM, PPPP and all other stakeholders are directly responsible of this mass murder...today or tomorrow Rehman Malik shall visit Karachi and things will cool down only to re-load the guns and killings will start again...

It is been 3 years this govt is in Power... they have MQM and ANP as their own allies and yet they have done nothing to restore peace in the city... talking about performance....

Re: Beautiful Port City Karachi burns again....

Screw MQM and screw these supposed injustices. I am a member of the same community, and all this moaning about this supposed isolation is so ****ing stupid. In a country where we have malnutrition and starvation in parts of the country, where specific segments of the population are proven to have successively got shorter over decades because of poverty.. the reasons you lot give for your supposed isolation and your resort to violence is oh, our quota in government jobs is less than what we think it should be.

Boo-frickin-hoo. You live in a city that supposedly contributes 75% of the revenue. That means a LOT of private sector jobs that other areas of the country do NOT have access to. Content yourself with that (very large) pool of resources. You have more schools and colleges than most other areas of the country. Unless your schools havent seen maths teachers for years because they all left for the big cities (i have personally taught in one such rural school) please dont whine about isolation and domination and all that rot because it feels like an elite group moaning about their fine cheese being two days old and we're so victimized while of the country starves.

If Pakistan were a communist country (not that I'd want it to be)... if all resources were equally divided amongst its citizens.. education... property... jobs.. urdu speakers would have a lot less as a group, not more.

What makes Karachi 'our' city? If it is anybody's it is the ethnic sindhies. As immigrants ourselves (and often from humble backgrounds) we should welcome all immigrants of all stripes.

Re: Beautiful Port City Karachi burns again....

There are many pashtuns, afghans and Urdu speaking people in Lahore but there's no violence. Even when after partition urdu speaking people slowly started taking over Karachi there was no violence from the Sindhi population, but now with karachi under the control of the mafia, they wouldnt want it slip out of their hands by hook or by crook.

Re: Beautiful Port City Karachi burns again....

Demographics of cities keep changing all the time. It happens the world over. Not a good enough reason to justify politics of guns, terrorism and militancy. Pathans/Punjabis have never resorted to militancy in Karachi though as Pakistanis it's their city too. MQM are thugs and they've ruined an awesome city called Karachi. No one owns Karachi -- it's for all the Pakistanis.

Re: Beautiful Port City Karachi burns again....

To be fair people. Punjabis make up the majority in most of the country, so obviously they arent under threat, and neither do they feel as if they are under threat.. The Urdu speaking Mohajirs who have only Karachi to call their own, must be feeling as if they are being overwhelmed in the one part of the country that they consider to be their corner. Can you blame them for wanting to defend their interest when all they have is this one city?
Ofcourse violence is never an answer in any case, but as we have seen in Pakistan, its usually the one with the biggest danda that gets the biggest slice of pie. It political reality in Pakistan.

Re: Beautiful Port City Karachi burns again....

But I really don't understand why MQM will want to ruin Karachi. Would you burn your own house? We have seen violence after ANP started their Talibanization of Karachi. There are areas in Karachi where an urdu speaker is not even allowed to enter. And then we are called militants. These people need to be given education. Because ANP supporters and workers have homes in KP, Balochistan but the people of Karachi and MQM workers only have one city and that's Karachi.

Whenever violence happens in Karachi, MQM is always blamed mostly non Karachiites who don't know much about Karachi blame MQM but today a town nazim who was a member of MQM was killed. Did MQM kill him?

Re: Beautiful Port City Karachi burns again....

You cannot compare Lahore and Karachi when it comes to ethnicity. 80% of Lahore is Punjab and around 5-10% are Urdu speakers. In Karachi there are more than 7 million Pathans and like 6-7 million Urdu speakers. You can call them a mafia but what that "mafia" has done for Karachi no ANP, PPP party has done in it's lifetime.
ANP leader also vowed to turn Karachi into Kabul which we can see happening.

There's a video of Shahid syed where he openly insults Urdu speakers.

Re: Beautiful Port City Karachi burns again....

As far as i know their are 180million urdu speakers in Pakistan.

Police shouldn't be in control by any political party. They should be independent and protecting
the common man, not the scumbags of "90", ANP or PPPP.

Scumbags like Wasim Akhtar of MQM, Shahi Syed of ANP, Zulfiqar Mirza of PPP will not make anything better.
These actions will repeat until the people of Karachi realize this political game that is played by MQM, ANP and PPP.

Re: Beautiful Port City Karachi burns again....

180 million? could be true considering many polling stations in Karachi return more than 100% turnover.
