BBQ'ing beef steak

our steaks never turn out yum. so i need some tips to cook em perfectly. remember, we are a desi family so we like our steaks well done.

so do you guys half-cook em before hand and then BBQ it? what temp should it be cooked at? what about any marinades or sauces? what’s the rules/tip with them? should i put em in foil and then plop em on the BBQ?

Re: BBQ’ing beef steak

Take meat and apply some cuts on that. Rub salt and oil on it. Put that on fire. Keep flipping it unless u think its no more pink from inside. Do put some BBQ sauce on it before and during BBQing … :stuck_out_tongue:

Good luck :jhanda:

i don't know exactly how to cook steaks bc my dad does it, but i know that medium done (just a good bit of pink in the middle) has such gooood flavor and almost melts in your mouth. i can't believe my parents eat it well-done... it's so chewy and tough!

Re: BBQ'ing beef steak

I only bbq chicken, shrimps, or fish so don't have experience grilling a steak. Anyway if you want your steak well done and not chewy at the same time, maybe cook it on the stove/pressure cooker for little bit....like cook it halfway and then put it on the grill let it cook all the way. Hopefully it won't be chewy and will be cooked all the way.

my husband luvs steaks and i too...so i always make them with baked potato loaded with sour cream... melted cheddar, saute veggies and garlic bread...it turns so nice....

sometimes i let it marinate with mustard paste, worcestershire sauce, meat tenderizer, salt if u want but i dont add it...then i just put it on grill and keep brushing the marinade and its done after sometime...but make sure u marinate it a night before...

the other way as someone said i only put the BBQ sauce in it and keep brushing ....

another way..i use HP sauce in marination ..see u have to make ur own combination of sauces and then see what suits ur taste buds...but steaks r really so so easy to make!

Re: BBQ'ing beef steak

May be boil the steakes first for a little while and than BBQ them...

Re: BBQ'ing beef steak

ok i've marinaded my steaks, and i'm going to bake em a bit. let's hope it turns out ok crossing fingers

Re: BBQ'ing beef steak

Make sure you use meat tenderizer in your marinate. You can always find unsalted meat tenderizer.

Re: BBQ'ing beef steak

we do our steaks in oven and they turn outt yummmmy
and we use shaan ka steak masala..i think but i'll confirm it wiht my mom

Re: BBQ'ing beef steak

Lusi i didn't have any meat tenderizer at home, so i made do without it.

aana oo i didn't know shaan made steak masala! could you confirm it please?

I made some marinade using mustard paste, tomato paste, vinegar, soya sauce, and some salt and black pepper and added some chopped green onion and left it overnight. I was really really scared about it being too salty, but thankfully it wasn't, instead it became a little bit khatti cuz of the vinegar. then i made a foil packet and plopped it on the grill. by the time the chicken was done the steak was done as well so all it needed was to be grilled a bit and it was pretty good if i say so myself :D

Re: BBQ'ing beef steak

best steaks dont need marinades, however citrus based marinades cut the carcinogens that charring causes by 60%. a good steak just needs some kosher salt..and thats it

couple of things NOT to do, dont keep turning the steak over..dont slather BBQ sauce throughout, even if you are using BBQ sauce, apply it only at the very end.

if u want to use pan and oven like most banquet places do it, then sear teh steak in very hot cast iron pan and then put the skillet in the oven for 10 mins.

for grill sear it on high and then put it on an upper rack for 10 and you should be fine.

I am on GS a little off and on these days.

my grill is broken so no grilling these days anyway, doing pan and oven mostly. hafta get a new grill.

many ppl mess up grilling man..squish the burgers like they are papar, and teh chicken..eatring chicken tikka at majority of parties is inviting a good catching up with your toilet.

the nasiest thing to eat is chicken tikka that crispy on the outside,,even burnt and raw inside :)

a good chicken tikka takes 20-25 mins to make.

Re: BBQ’ing beef steak

no cuz you’re the steak expert :phati: dun like bobby flay

i know what you mean! good chicken tikka takes time…but is sooo worth the wait.

Re: BBQ'ing beef steak

Chicken tikka is so yummy. My mom is like the expert. She marinates them overnite and we grill them on low heat and don't flip till it's easy to take off without ripping off the flesh. And they say, never put yogurt on grilling stuff otherwise too much water comes out kinda.

Re: BBQ’ing beef steak

I love bobby flay… he is just awesome…

Re: BBQ'ing beef steak

Meat tenderizer or Papaya should be used in marination. Use only a little bit of papaya else it would be too tender.
Marination can be anything from the following:
Papaya
Onion water
Vinegar
Lemon Juice
Salt
Pepper
Green chili paste

Marinate it overnight, spray the grill with non-fat oil and place steak on it. Keep the grill on medium high and don't turn it steak until 20-30 minutes
Turn over and leave for 15-20 minutes.

Re: BBQ'ing beef steak

50 minutes on the grill? aap steak bana rahay hain ya beef jerky?

Re: BBQ’ing beef steak

Fool Proof steaks:
As per my knowledge most desi people do not have these two basic tools of the trade for making and enjoying perfect beef steaks.

  1. steak hammer/meat mallet
  2. steak knives
Beat the steaks with steak hammer/meat mallet , give it a good beating. it makes them soft and chewy and eliminates the need for long term marination . I use tikka masala for marination and marinate the meat for about one hour you can increase the time if you want.
Then I broil them in oven 5 to 7 minutes each side , that is all to it. You can grill them too if you want to sometimes I do that. This timing is more than enough to eliminate the pink our of steak , we desi do not like if the meat still has the pink in it.

Remember steak hammer is your best friend to make perfect steaks.
