Is Basant being less and less celebrated because of the growing religious movement in the country?
Re: Basant and Religious Zealots
Freaking hate basant… who ever/what ever stopped it have my support.
Re: Basant and Religious Zealots
I hope not. I have fond memories of Basant as a kid.
Re: Basant and Religious Zealots
Why?
Re: Basant and Religious Zealots
.
Re: Basant and Religious Zealots
So now because of that, all of Lahore must suffer?
Re: Basant and Religious Zealots
If they must, they need to get their a@@es out of lahore.
It not worth killing people over a stupid event.
You know PCG people get slaughter with the string ?
Re: Basant and Religious Zealots
Then why don’t they just institute some safety practices??
Re: Basant and Religious Zealots
don’t play irshad manjy here.
Ask your lahoria patang bazz if they want to fly kites with out sharp strings.
I honestly thing its more bloody then fun.
its over all more ugly then then color full.
IF you make it secure in any way, it wont be the “basant” you are in love with.
Re: Basant and Religious Zealots
Ya’re kidding..Basant is best festival!. We used to put bhangra music and dance on top of our house in Lahore. Ahh those bbqs and chai late night..
Re: Basant and Religious Zealots
I don’t think so basalt ever stopped. Isn’t it a cultural thing?
Re: Basant and Religious Zealots
Well… kids aged 2-`3 have been slaughtered their throats slashed due to the strings…so its not religious pcg…its plain simple sanctity of human life over some 'anjarkhana
Re: Basant and Religious Zealots
Kite flying/fighting is a part of the culture there. I’ve seen plenty of it in Karachi too. But i can see how a festival like that where so many people gather and are kite fighting at the same time can get dangerous. I think it’s a good thing, then, they put the kabosh on it.
Re: Basant and Religious Zealots
Couldn’t fly kites. Was terrible at making kites and flying them. The manja with all the glass coating etc was not my cup of tea. Cant find much to argue with Dr. Monk on this one.
Loved the Kite Runner, though.
Re: Basant and Religious Zealots
No. It was banned because of the loss of life to the string used to fly kites which was getting ever stronger and deadlier. The number of deaths because of that string increased every year. Yes, the government tried to control the manufacture and sale of such string but failed. We do not really respect laws, do we?
It is not only this area but almost all aspects of social life that we fail to implement regulation. I love flying kites but would support the ban on festival if the ban saves even one life.
Re: Basant and Religious Zealots
you call it manja in south india as well?
Re: Basant and Religious Zealots
No. I grew up in the North.
Re: Basant and Religious Zealots
I couldn’t fly them either ![]()
Re: Basant and Religious Zealots
Why should people at large suffer from the Basant? The public we have got does not know how to celebrate occasions like these. The threads they use for flying kites are very sharp, many people get killed driving bikes (when the thread catches their necks while driving), people getting injured/killed due to falls from the roofs, transformers damaged due to metallic threads touching them and so on.
Re: Basant and Religious Zealots
I being a true Lahore dont support Basant …Although I love the festival but last three basants were horrifying…I Myself got nearly got my throat ripped off
So its better its been banned from Lahore although I still the late night BBQ and Bhangra music nothing beats that
